A video segment focusing the shaman, Ron Wheelock. The overall tone of the coverage seems quite positive. Lisa Ling stated that she would have drunk the medicine if not explicitly forbidden by CNN.

"I wanted to let people know that there will be a report on CNN on Sunday night at 10 pm Eastern, a new show called This is Life with Lisa Ling. The episode will report on a group of veterans who traveled to Peru last summer seeking therapy for their PTSD. This was done under the auspices of VET, Veterans for Entheogenic Therapy, founded by vet Ryan LeCompte. yessssss yesssss yessss. I have a few close friends who have ptsd and I've seen them degrade due to the va handing them pills and "sweeping it under the rug". I hope this makes an impact on the way people view dmt.

I was very pleased with the episode. I thought it was going to be garbage with the "gringo shaman they had on at first, a pot dealer from kansas gone shaman but they really hit the nail on the head with the veterans and ptsd. Im very grateful they put that out there, if any message in the world needs to be told, its that our countries warriors are in serious need of help, and they are finding it after being dubbed "uncurable". Props to lisa ling and CNN for putting a great mesage to the world

Was surprised, in a good way. Especially coming from CNN. Streamed entire series from episode 1 as a result, incredibly well made series. They touch difficult topics such eugenics, prostitution, pharma pill addiction and seem to be true and honest about it.

This CNN reporter(Lisa) seems like a humble/intelligent person that approaches these things without judgement and I really like that about her.

I am very curious as to what they are going to cover in the next episode.

I don't have cable so it took a little effort for me to find the segment. Fortunately one of the shorter clips included her closing. It was great all the way through and it must have been weird to be str8 for a few days hanging out in a room o' purgers.
Lisa's closing spoke volumes. After 3 days hanging with those cats she REALLY wanted to participate but had signed some "I will not dose" contract with CNN. I am scheming on how to buy her jewlry now. She is SO hot when expressing her desire to DRINK!

I thought the show was ok considering it was cnn. Although the "gringo shaman" doesn't seem like THAT bad of a guy I think he's a damn con artist and taking advantage of these people. Dudes riding around on a motorcycle. I thought it was good how Lisa gave a pretty good statement about how people should at least think about whether or not this stuff should be illegal. I'm sure a lot of drones saw that message since it was on cnn and that is good. I thought it was hilarious at the end when the gringo shaman says to that dude during the "daytime dose"; "ya want a little more smoke blown on ya?". Dude's like alright, yeah..., that smoke clouds gunna be 200 bucks haha

I've got to say that I thought that was total garbage. I was excited to sit down and watch it, but I didn't think it brought anything substantive whatsoever to the conversation. If I had never heard of ayahuasca beforehand, I don't think I would be inclined to investigate any further after watching.

If you mean Ron Wheelock, that guy is one of the most respected curranderos in the area..and the only gringo currandero I know of who actually lives in a way similar to the locals, and does ceremonies for the locals...for free. I would drink with that man over any other gringo currandero. I have never once heard people complain about the man, I have spoken with a number of people who drank with him and every one came back in awe. Why wouldn't they interview him?..he has the reputation and seems far more sincere about his work than many others. Im kind of taken back by the comments here against him just because he is a gringo or was involved with cannabis. There is a reason the man is so respected by both gringos as well as locals.

Did you want a pretty picture of ayahuasca that can be packaged and sold like everything else in the west? That's not what real ayahuasca work is. Talk to anyone who knows what is up in that area. Ron Wheelock is THE man to go to. Who cares if he is a biker or once sold pot..I mean, really?...what does that have to do with the work that he does?

I agree over all it was pretty terrible coverage, they went into no detail on icaros or any of that, and that is a very beautiful and key part of the ceremonies. Showing a white biker guy drinking a "hallucinogenic" beverage and speaking in weird tounges, probably was unappealing to most, including me. I was actually pretty upset and about to turn it off because in my mind i just figured the real deal shamans just wanted nothing to do with CNN, and the "gringo shaman" was the only taker.

Fortnatley the second half of the episode was a bit more tolerable. For the general public, who know nothing about any of this stuff, for them to hear that their nations warriors are suffering tremendously, and that this may be a cure for them after being deemed "incurable". I believe thats the best possible message that could be put out to the public, one that is pretty dificult to argue with. Hopefully the public took this message well, as i think they will. Its a small step for sure, but in order to catch the laymans attention you have to start small with simple easy to swallow messages, especially that have to do with the people that protect and serve our country.

I have heard only positive accounts when people speak of Ron Wheelock. He is known for brewing a very strong medicine which even native curanderos like to use. He is respected among the natives curanderos and in contrast to your claim of him beeing a con artist he has a reputation of beeing the "real deal".

100$ per day also sounds pretty cheap if you ask me.

I definitely judged this guy to rashly, I did not know that he only charges a 100$ a person, that is reasonable. I kind of figured he was just some guy trying to make money and he was the only one they could get on camera like "yep let's film that guy". I take what I said back. However I still do find the whole thing kinda humorous when he's asking if the guy wants more smoke blown on him lol

...adding that many mapacho cigars into the brew (one per participant) probably causes these deaths -- we watched this jungle fix with mixed feelings
