Hey sidefx!
I've been reading/studying Erythroxylum recently and have some data regarding preparation and dosage.
It can be taken a number of ways..chewed, smoked or as a tea, tinc etc. Clearly chewing is most prominent. It must be mixed with an alkaline substance, like sodium bicarbonate. In Bolivia, and northwestern Argentina, this is relatively common. In the same region, the leaves are also mixed with Trichocereus pasacana or Tri pachanoi, or spp..candicine is shown to alter and potentiate the effects of cocaine(C.M. Torres, pers, comm.) It is also popular to mix cake ash(llipta plant) with the fresh or dried leaves of coca.
There are also a number of aroma plants that are mixed to enhance the experience. Such plants are the leaves of rosary pea(Abrus precatorius & Rhynchosia pyramidalis) and are roasted beforehand to eliminate toxins. This process, or enhancement, is known as
misquina.. other aromatic plants include Tagetes spp, which are known as pampa anis. The bark is sold at markets(Plowman 1980, 254.). Brugmansia is also another candidate for mixing..however, this doesn't qualify as a safe plant to work with and should be disregarded as such..it is used with coca still to this day for shamanistic, sedative purposes albeit.
I'd begin with 1 leave or half a leave and just work up from there, whatever you're feeling. A person in SA typically takes a spoonful and chewed for at least half hour, and swallowed gradually.
Any additional info you'd like I'd be happy to forward to you.. good luck!
