It's funny because it's true. People who talk 'spiritual' with the whole 'you have an amazing aura' or you're giving off 'amazing energy' drive me insane. I've met a couple club kids (one was a go go dancer) and she would tell me things like 'I love the energy you're giving off right now' and it drove me crazy. Just because she did research chemicals that she thought was MDMA for the last few years made her open up to a whole new 'spiritual level of understanding' and 'consciousness'.

I mean maybe it didn't hurt and maybe it helped a little but do you really have to act that ultra spiritual all the time?

Hmmm, i may have a one track mind but i would have translated a comment like that as her fancying you. Rather than getting pissed off you should have got in there. Or, at the very least, taken it as a compliment. It"s similar to when you meet someone and they ask what star sign you are. They are weighing up the possibilities of compatability (allbeit in a very airy fairy nonsensical way). They like it even more if you enter into a good natured argument telling them that all that star sign stuff is rubbish.

I can totaly relate to this. And yeah, one could/should take it as a compliment. But for me it's just nonsense. Why not just saying what one means instead of using woolly terms without a true meaning one can grasp?

Nonsense.....yes, but then again we are a nonsensical species and therefore it is perfectly natural to say things like that. You don"t meet a stranger in a bar/club and say "i fancy you" (unless you are drunk maybe). You give them an in with a woolly sounding compliment that they have to read between the lines abit to get (but not too much). Then you can test the waters and see whether they reciprocate without leaving yourself too open to instantaneous soul crushing rejection.
It"s like a mating dance.

Agreed. People have a funny way of showing their affection. Why be upfront and say "I'm fond of you" when you can bring your self control to its limits by acting apathetic and nonchalant towards another person in order to make them come to you? It sounds like I'm being sarcastic, but in my personal experiences, the whole stereotype of "girls like assholes" is completely valid.

I do this. And this is exactly what I don't get in my head.

Why don't you say this?

...and this is a rethorical question. Cause the answer is obvious.

You don't say that cause you are afraid that the other person says "i fancy you not".
But hey...this is the worst that could happen.
Why are you afraid of this? Must have to do something with desire and rejection and stuff like this. But in reality this is absolutly childish behaviour...ok...or in my reality at least.

But I think that grown ups should be able to deal with stuff like this. And if you are acting grown up and the other person is acting grown up too, what bad could happen?

If one hopes for the best outcome, but is prepared for the worst outcome, there's nothing that can go wrong.

Imho much more things can go wrong when people misunderstand you, cause one leaves to much room for interpretation or uses woolly words.

I would find it much more frustating to do a "mating dance" over hours and hours whithout beeing concrete and THEN get rejected after all this "work".

But yeah, I know, people are in deed different. But...but...it could be so simple. *ggg*

Everything is always okay in the end, if it's not, then it's not the end.

I don"t think that fear of rejection is necessarily childish. It might be just that someone is a little sensitive to these things. Is sensitivity childish? Also if you see someone that you like the look of and you end up getting on with them then maybe a little delicacy is in order to go further with them.

I don"t see it as work. I quite enjoy flirting with people. Even when it ends up going south.

I dedicate this clip to you Steppa. I will admit that there is a possilbility that if the bird in that link had said "get your kecks down love and bend over, i"m coming in!" he might"ve been better off.....

Hahaha...yeah. I love those birds. But I'm not a bird.
I just like when people are straight forward, when they say what they mean AND mean what they say.

Saying 'I love the energy you're giving off right now' is not saying what one means. That's all what bothers me about this.

steppa, have you heard of Tinder? You might like it.

It's now a common dating/hookup app. I always found it funny because of how straightforward it is; essentially every person is a 1 or a 0. And if they match you too, well there you go, you can talk to them.

It's a funny little honest app for us primates to use. Big grin

I think that you are right. Saying what you mean and vice versa does take a lot of the complications out of communicating.

But if someone does believe in auras and reiki and stuff like that, surely they are saying what they mean. It"s just not in a language that is conducive to your belief system.

Such vitriol. Why so bitter? Did one of these new age morons steal an ex partner by using the hackneyed "you"ve got a beautiful aura" chat up line on them?

Funny thing is, I posted this because it's a self-critical reflection. I too can be one of "those" people and you can bet your sweet pennies that I enjoy every moment of it.

I liked the part comparing spirituality to religion. Makes sense.

This is so great. I'm very impressed at how thorough of a critique it is.
Every day I am thankful that I was introduced to psychedelic drugs.
