Okay so I justttt watched avatar for the first time (I know a few years late) and my god, I am not a movie buff by any means but this movie struck something in me. Never before have I had these feelings be invoked by a film but honestly, it was just as profound of an experience for me as DMT was..... I feel the message in this film and its upcoming sequels could really have a great effect on our relationship to nature as a species. I watched the whole thing with my jaw dropped in pure bliss and almost felt depressed after because of how immersed I became in Pandora and the na'vi! We might not be able to convince everyone to take psychedelics but if Cameron can make the next few movies as incredibly profound as this one, I think it could possibly heavily influence the actions that we take as a culture in the coming generations. I don't know... what do you guys think? Did any of you get touched extremely deep by this movie? Its not like me to obsess over a film like this but I can't stop thinking about it Razz

Good quality Syrian rue (Peganum harmala) for an incredible price!

to be honest i thought Avatar was garbage, cheesy cliched predictable nonsense, it was very trippy and its probably the coolest looking film ive seen but it was about as deep as a teaspoon.

I think theres quite a long thread about it somewhere.

To each their own I guess.... but to say I'm not doing DMT "right" is definitely false Razz maybe what I shouldve said was that I haven't experienced those kinds of feelings SINCE my introduction to DMT. It seems like there's two groups of people when it comes to this movie.....those who absolutely loved every second (like me) and those who thought it was a crappy, shallow, cheesy movie with nothing more to offer than eye candy. I personally can't connect with why you have that perspective.... but you're entitled to it and I won't argue against your view..... just expressing my own Smile

i enjoyed it but i could have told you what was going to happen after about 10 mins, it was very predictable and the message was just the same old same old.

I mean if you pick apart any film and look and individual qualities of it, you can point out its flaws all day. For a lot of people this filmwas more of an experience than just simply watching a movie. Sure its sort of a cliche, but it definitely had a powerful effect on a lot of people.... also, I have a few experience reports here 3rdi ...... DMT has never been anything "like a movie" to me and has provided me with experiences that I would have never thought were even close to possible.... but to say that a film couldn't invoke SIMILAR (not exactly the same) feelings of empathy and compassion for the earth is kind of narrow I think... if I'm not mistaken, a few members here have felt similarities between avatar and their ayahuasca voyages.

they did indeed i was looking for the thread but i cant find it, i think Antrocles started it and he loved the film, i think he saw it about 5 times at the flicks.

im not trying to bring down you use of the Magic and im sure you have been there and done it, but i find that, personally, it is impossible to compare anything to the Magic, especially a film. I do know what you mean though and i was only messing.

if it wasnt so pretty would you still rate it? i would have left after about 30 mins if it didnt look so incredible. There is a comic it was based/stolen from which you might want to check out, its called "Timespirits"

I probably wouldn't have even watched it if I hadn't heard about how pretty of was. That was my original intent of watching the film. The emotional experience was pretty in expected but the beauty of it all definitely had an impact on that. Maybe that original post about being As profound as DMT was silly, because I've said countless times that DMT is the most put of this world, profound and crazy thing you can possibly do as a human being. I think that Avatar would have been more beneficial for American society if it had had a unhappy ending with the whole ecosystem getting wiped out. Then people would have left the cinema feeling angry. Sugary endings in hollywood films don"t do the general public any favours apart from giving them a warm fuzzy feeling. You might aswell just spend the evening doing heroin.
I actually quite enjoyed it.

I liked the movie. Although i dont attach any expectations to movies really, like a lot of judgmental movie critics. They are fun, sure it would be nice if most movies didn't have tons of similarities but oh well.

Avatar is actually almost identical to fern gully. As far as movies having any impact on social change, thats what documentaries are for.

My reason for thinking that it could have a possible impact is because I know there was a large amount of people that were very moved by the film that changed the way THEY saw nature. Cameron is going to be releasing 3 more parts I believe starting in 2016. These films will get to the masses and have more of a chance of influencing the collective and reaching massive audiences than documentaries do I think... Cameron is known for making great sequels so I think if he knocks these next ones out of the park and there isn't too long of a break between the releases for people to totally forget about it, maybe they will move people as much as the first one, if not more. I also really admire how many trees that the film crew planted during the creation of this movie. Walking the path they're preaching Smile

My girlfriend and I watched this on LSD before and it was incredibly moving and brought me to tears when the huge tree was being bulldozed down and stuff because I wasn't watching a movie... I was witnessing what is really happening in this world this very moment... it really got to me. After the movie I was looking in the mirror and I looked sort of like the na'vi, but not blue lol. Like sort of elfish/ancient

Though, I don't believe this film is gonna have such an impact on society that it causes changes on a mass level. Definitely on the individual level for some people. But most people just see a movie probably Confused

In darkest night, when lights are dim, and all in sight seems sad and grim,
I find you there, your arms surround me, your spirit fills me and it grounds me.
I look to you, Lady of Truth, most ancient One, yet eternal youth,to keep me safe, protect my heart, and with the wisdom you impart, fill up my empty mind and soul,so that, my Lover, you can make whole, all that was broken in this day –and that is what I ask and pray.

Sure maybe in a small way, but has there been a single movie that initiated something substantial like the zeitgeist documentary did? I just think most people watch a movie and sure it can cause a better outlook but doesnt turn into anything on a larger scale.
