Hi

I'm struggling with something, the last 10 years I have been producing music, sitting in front of the computer working my ass off and I finally have the opportunity to be a dj, I gonna play my first gig very soon. But, I don't feel the joy of it anymore, I have found climbing life changing and it give me so much more to life than the music part ever did. The climbing is so my much better for my body&soul compared to sitting inside drinking beer and wasting time after time.

Climbing is something that really manifested itself inside my body, i get mentally stronger, social, and psychical stronger. I'm in love in this sport.

my stomach tells me to do what i feel like, but then i start thinking about all the time i have "used" in music,, it's hard. but i guess it's obvious what i should do. . thoughts ?

i don't think you're in need of any answers but maybe it would be a good thing to at least experience sharing your work of ten years with others in a live act. maybe that's what it takes to ignite that old spark, maybe it will just point you out to the fact that it isn't as fulfilling as it was before. either way, i'd say do it and see how that goes for you.

Thumbs up
"..undisturbed by order, chaos creates balance. it is not the artifical balance of scales and weights, but the lively, ever-changing balance of a wild and beautiful dance. it is wonderful; it is magickal. it is beyond any definition, and every attempt to describe it can only be a metaphor that never comes near to its true beauty or erotic energy."

You may meet someone of importance within your first DJ experience..perhaps gain some insight from others from there. Who knows. Another idea you could potentially use is perceive this upcoming gig as a 'mental climb' so to speak. If another opportunity arises for gigs, decline it and return to your physical climbing to feel yourself again. From there you may or may not return to your music, depending on how you feel and how your upcoming gig goes. The audience may give you some more clarification and confidence. Wink

If you continue with music, balance your creation with your climbing abilities.

Hope this aids in your vision.

if there is a chance you can make money from music/DJing then i would go with that, its a good way to make cash and you cant climb in the darkVery happy.

I climb and i can tell you without a doubt that the 2 activities can be done together, the only time you wouldnt be able to do them both is if you become a climbing dirtbag and start living in vans and tents at the crag.

Climb by day, spin records by night, sounds good to me.

is it music that you aren't enjoying so much anymore or just the mixing part of it? if the latter, perhaps you could try just going back to simply listening to it for a while rather than mixing...and balancing that with other activities you enjoy.. music usually effects me on the deepest level when its not a chore and felt as more of a tool of enhancement. as somebody who writes music everyday I find it can often become the former.. and i spose its all about finding that balance and knowing when to put it down, go do something else and then come back when you actually want to.
if you got into dj'ing because music is a passion of yours, i'd say that passion is bound to come back in the near future, it might just be that you need a fresh activity to help you express yourself differently for the time being

it is ultimately listening to music that will inspire you to tweak and twerk it - and if you are coming at it too objectively then your relationship with it may become a little forced

wow guys, did not expect such good feedback, I appreciate it. I think life is a journey and we need change sometimes, nothing last's. But i don't wanna make money on music, all the sitting at home made my life very asocial, but climbing made me go outside and meet people, it's something new to me. I'm out of the egg and ready to explore the world I have been dreaming about, and on the other hand, i'm going on a handcrafting school with people from all over the world, feels good. Rolling eyes

acacian; Yeah, i noticed when making music (trance) i stopped enjoying music the way i did before, but I gonna play this festival and I will stop after that, so much other beautiful things in this world.

What i'm trying to explain here is that sometimes you find your calling, it transforms your life to the better, and you know this is what you gonna do. And the reason I know it is because it doesn't feel like work, it's playtime, and I don't even look at the clock because time doesn't concern you when you are doing what you love. And when you are following your calling you are happy where you are, you have a 100% focus, because you see that you are working for your highest purpose. I think.

Anyone encountered the same feeling?

if thats the case you gotta do what makes you happy, music will always be there to come back to and like i said climbing still leaves lots of time to do other stuff.

If your in europe you must go to Fontainebleau and Siurana, they are easily the 2 best places i have climbed.

Yes. This is some true importance that must be recognised. For everyone knows..its just a matter of doing and being that which you are.

Funny, I went through this exact same dilemma around the beginning of this year. Up until the end of last year, I was playing with two active bands, as well as doing a studio band and a solo project where I did all the instruments/production. Needless to say, I spent many, many hours working on music, and eventually I just got burnt out. I basically quit the bands I was in and stopped working on my studio projects.

However, instead of climbing, I discovered hiking was my "something better," (and more recently, biking as well). I can walk for hours without a care in the world, then I'll try to sit down to work and music and just get frustrated within a few minutes. The more I thought about, the more I realized that the most frustrating part was really the fact that I didn't want to do it, but I was pushing myself for some reason, and that's what really burnt me out.

These days, I try to spend as much time outside as possible and do things that are more physically stimulating than sitting in front of a computer for six straight hours fine tweaking things and going into obsessive compulsive overdrive. I don't even really listen to music that much anymore, but I can enjoy it in very small doses. I find silence to be much more relaxing and conducive to proper mental health for me.

That being said, do what you want. If, deep down, you really aren't that interested in music anymore, then just take a break from it.

This. I feel the same way, I tried to make some beats today but i just closed the computer and rather got outside listening to music, and I have to say. When you stop producing, you notice how good some music are.

Funny stuff bro, glad to hear that someone else have experienced the same stuff, sharing is caring, and sitting inside 6 hours a day is never pretty. I wish you beautiful walks on the road Akasha
