I LOVE THIS THREAD.
And now that capslock is off I will yell it properly:
"I LOVE THIS THREAD!!!"
Ahhh thats better.
The work in here is so amazing I can hardly believe it and I have seen some of it before in places where I knew it was sort of not the place to ask something like "Now WHAT were YOU on when you thought of THAT?!?!".
Here I can ask that, and that is a splendid thing.

This is for Uncle Knucles:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AjfQOAbjEYw

More soon on transparency, reflection and things like caustics in ZBrush....

Also this just because someone mentioned legos:

Mealea, what on earth is that Lego thing?

Art, my rendering experience is mainly in long-defunct Bryce, but if I were confronted with the same issue in that program I'd play around with the specularity. If there is a parameter for that in Z, that might be a place to start, as it controls the sharpness of the reflections. Surface diffusion should be zero. Think about gloss vs matte finishes in real life- they can be exactly the same material, but the smoothness or granularity of the surface determines glossiness vs diffusion. So: perfectly smooth surface, zero diffusion, high specularity. If you can set the color of the specular halo, play around with that too as it will effect the visual strength of the reflection. And yes, you need something to reflect in it- the light sources in Z are invisible except for their output. Try placing a cool shape of translucent material between the light source and the clock, see if that gives the reflection more character.

Welcome aboard, Mealea. Good to have another Z-man aboard. I just checked out your gallery over there. You are crazy prolific.

I see that you are all about the displacement maps (which I've never even attempted). It's funny - there are sooooo many ways to use that tool for entirely different results. It ain't just for sculpting the incredible hulk. It's the way of the future fo sho!

How long have you been at it?

As you should be. That is fantastic. All of your work is, really. Your overall composition and design aesthetic, your color, your range of technical skills... they're all really world class.

If I could produce results like that in a day, I absolutely would. I've just got my own quirky thing that I've settled into out of necessity. My skills are nowhere near yours on any of these levels, but what I do have going for me is patience - and I know that if I 1) set out with a solid plan, and 2) spend x number of hundreds of hours executing it, I'm going to get where I'm going eventually.

MealeaYing, some trippy crawly stuff there!

So folks, I got a graphics tablet. My PC slows me down a tad, but still I feel I can do more. I'm still learning all the ins and outs of photoshop but very much enjoying watching it all happen without waiting for it to dry Thumbs up

"..undisturbed by order, chaos creates balance. it is not the artifical balance of scales and weights, but the lively, ever-changing balance of a wild and beautiful dance. it is wonderful; it is magickal. it is beyond any definition, and every attempt to describe it can only be a metaphor that never comes near to its true beauty or erotic energy."

EDIT: Sorry for the double post, having some weird problems uploading this...

A paint-over of cyb's avatar... came out pretty evil looking. Typical of me I guess.

Its.... its.... I dont know, it must be French!

Uncle Knucles:
Thanks, and thats ZWoman or something.....
I have been playing with displacement a lot lately yes and making a lot of tutorials about how its done but I mostly love pure sculpting.
Displacement and displacement maps are two different things however and actually that branches out even further when you use displacement maps strictly for bump mapping.
It gets crazy fast!
I cant find you on ZBC send me a link? I have seen you on there but didn't comment because I could see Aurick getting uptight and giving me an infraction for mentioning hallucinogens.....

UniverseCannon:
Thanks!!!!

Beacon:
Holy cow you make neat stuff!

Muskogee Herbman:
Thanks and if you need tutorials for anything I know how to do let me know, I don't have Maya, Mac or rino and won't anytime soon but I know other stuff and some of it might apply.

Orion:
Thanks!
What sort of tablet? It shouldn't slow anything down....

I hope I didn't miss anyone, If I did Im sorry, I need more coffee.....

Orion and Tyler:
Those are GREAT!
