Three three-hour simmers of caapi made by removing the material and using fresh water after each simmer then recombining the brew and simmering it down to the desired final volume of liquid in my and many others' experience makes a much more potent final tea than one single brew in a pot or crockpot that is regularly refilled with water.

This has certainly been my experience having tried both methods.

Do you agree and if you do can you explain why 3x3 works better?

Intuitively I think it has something to do with how alkaloids saturate the water - can anyone with a scientifically inclined mind verify or disprove this?

it's been something I've been puzzling over so would love to hear some opinions

Thumbs up or Thumbs down

Good question!

There is a link for that in the FAQ
Can I make one big pull instead of few smaller ones?

Volume of the solvent is dramatically different (naphtha vs water) but the the general principle is probably the same.

In the jungle they just use massive pots with one boil but it literally grows on trees

There are many different traditions of ayahuasca use. Presenting a singular methodology is both incorrect and culturally insensitive.

Yes many different ways but one large pot is definitely one method. saying I'm culturally insensitive might be a tad harsh! I mentioned it only in relation to this topic which is why 3x3 boiled are more effective. Suggestion being that for most of us we have limited access to I vine - let alone fresh cut vine and admixtures - so we want to make the most of it but if you have ample raw material then it isn't likely as big of an issue..

When you say "In the jungle, they..." you are presenting a homogeneous "jungle culture." This is not the case. Big pot, small pot, one boil, twelve...there is no uniform "they" of "the jungle." That's all I was trying to communicate.

Lazy language on my part. Apologies. Wasn't trying to generalize a culture or offend. I merely meant "I saw one guy and his pals with a big pot brewing ayahuasca in the jungle and they seemed to like their particular technique." Full disclosure it was on a YouTube vid ...

I've never had the pleasure of going to Peru or Brazil. But I'm not quite so daft as to assume there's a single monolithic culture running along the Amazon I had my eyes opened to a myriad of indigenous cultures when I was living in Mexico. One particularly eye-opening event springs to mind when I was in Chiapas (in an area that was pretty much jungle as it happens ) staying with Zapatistas. This was when I was about 20 and I could barely speak a word of Spanish. When I first arrived In the camp I actually was a bit daft. I Ignorantly thought everyone was speaking Spanish way above my grasp til an Argentinian girl who was also staying in the same autonomous camp explained nobody was speaking Spanish. All the Mayan chaps in our camp were speaking Tzetal and the others ( who were visiting from a camp literally two miles down the road ) were speaking Totzil ... And they told us in their bad Spanish they could barely understand each other. And just in that hundred mile radius there were about twenty different languages. So yeah, I was a total idiot but I'm not anymore and really wasn't trying to generalize cultures.

Sadly they didn't have any ayahuasca ---they did have some god-awful cornstarch based hooch that gave a good purge however.

Anyway this has all gotten a bit off topic hasn't it.

3x3 ... Almost foolproof.
