Could I say use a plate over a pot of boiling water or in the oven in order to quicken the evaporation of water and dry the harmalas or would this ruin them or vaporize them?

I was thinking of using the method one would use in order to turn liquid ketamine into powder.
That moment when you wonder if this time you went too far....

Obviously everything discussed here is the fictional accounts of someone with an out there imagination. I mean really could any of these tales be real?

There is a little bit of interesting history connected with the melting point of harmaline. A report appeared that described an alkaloid from Peganum harmala that looked like harmaline but which melted 18 °C too high, and so it was thought to be an isomer and was given the name harmadine. This was all cleared up a few years later when it was observed that on an open melting point block, harmaline had a mp 242-244 °C (with beginnings of sublimation at 189 °C) and harmadine had the values of 241-243 °C and 178 °C. In a capillary tube, harmaline melted at 256°C and harmadine at 257 °C. So, harmadine is now a synonym for harmaline.

Some melting point information for harmaline from TiHKAL. The relatively low heat of boiling water shouldn't damage the alkaloids, keep in mind that ayahuasca is often boiled for hours on end and is still active. You could always use a fan as well.

Personally I wouldn't rush the process though, if DMT/caapi have taught me one thing it is that patience is a virtue. Smile

I've successfully used an oven to dry freebase harmalas at low heat (200F). It doesn't work as well with harmala HCl, since they are slightly soluble in the water and melt into the filter paper when heated.

just be careful you don't stir up your harmalas and then blow them away Laughing

Press the harmalas (HCl or freebase) between filter paper or tissue paper. With the HCl salt this also takes out more NaCl that is left from Manske style salting. Then dry in an oven at 100 degrees Celcius.
