Alexander Shulgin died at age 88 yesterday. He holds a special place in the history of our culture, and I know that his work inspired and fascinated many of us here on The Nexus.

RIP, man.

Here's an article covering his death.

Youre finally home, Sasha

Amen.

I wonder, how is Ann holding up and how are her finances now? Im sure she could use some help.

Impermanence is incredibly profound... I will always admire Sasha for his work and his kindness, my heart goes out to Ann during this very difficult and trying time. ♥

Words cannot begin to describe the despair I feel today. If it weren't for Dr. Shulgin and his wonderful words and molecules, I would not be the same person I am now. I would have never become interested in organic chemistry, nor the depths of consciousness only psychedelic exploration (with the aid of his dirty pictures) could grant me. Sasha's mortal remains are nothing but a mere speck of dust in the wake of the herculean legacy he has bestowed not only upon the psychedelic community, but upon the entire world as we know it.

Rest in Peace, Dr. Alexandre Theodore "Sasha" Shulgin; may your name live on unto the end of the universe.

Appreciate the post! Incredible, kind, intelligent and profound man. He created so much for our exploration and civilization. Much love to the Shulgins. Be in peace, Sasha.

A grand and majestic life has been completed. Let us mourn the extinguished light, celebrate the warmth it has brought, and prepare for the rising of another star...

Rest in peace Alexander, you were truly one of the greatest self expressions the universe could have produced. I do not know how I feel yet, besides the initial sorrow.
I died a mineral, and became a plant. I died a plant and rose an animal. I died an animal and I became human. Then why fear disappearance through death? Next time I shall die, Bring forth wings and feathers like angels; After that, soaring higher than angels-- What you cannot imagine, I shall be that.

My best wishes and heartfelt support go out to Ann and the rest of team Shulgin.
One of the brightest free minds of our lifetime has made the great transition after a life lived to the fullest, hopefully the next generation will pick up on the legacy he has left behind.

Bless you Sasha!

Alexander Shulgin is quite possibly a name that will remain a part of our history as long as we are a species. His contributions will only grow in fame with his passing.

Thank you brother Shulgin for all of the pioneering work you laid out for the world to build upon.

RIP.

May the echoes of his life ripple on...
Images of broken light,
Which dance before me like a million eyes,
They call me on and on...

I knew it was coming but still, realizing he's gone and what Ann now faces . . . Crying or very sad
"But even if nothing lasts and everything is lost, there is still the intrinsic value of the moment. The present moment, ultimately, is more than enough, a gift of grace and unfathomable value, which our friend and lover death paints in stark relief."

I did not know him personally, but he seemed to be a kind person who has without any doubt contributed greatly to the psychedelic community. It is sad that he won't be on this earth any longer. Sad

It is indeed sad, but Sasha had the brains and the courage to pursue his dreams and walk his own path with very admirable style, a very very smart and lovely man, he lived a long and prosperous life, and his influence and his creations will live on for a very long time...

“How long will this last, this delicious feeling of being alive, of having penetrated the veil which hides beauty and the wonders of celestial vistas? It doesn't matter, as there can be nothing but gratitude for even a glimpse of what exists for those who can become open to it.”

- Alexander "Sasha" Shulgin

My thoughts are with the shulgins right now.

The accomplishments and fullness he lived his life to, is some solace in the news of his passing. 88 years of amazing life, and undeterminable contributions to the study of psychedelics is a legacy worth leaving behind.

I hope the journey he passed into a few days ago is more wonderful and profound than the precious time he spent in our physical realm.

Though physically you are gone, your spirit and love lives on in the countless you have helped and inspired with your work Sasha.

Let's all give our support to Ann and the rest of the Shulgin's right now, spiritually, emotionally, and financially.

"let those who have talked to the elves, find each other and band together" -TMK

In a society in which nearly everybody is dominated by somebody else's mind or by a disembodied mind, it becomes increasingly difficult to learn the truth about the activities of governments and corporations, about the quality or value of products, or about the health of one's own place and economy.
In such a society, also, our private economies will depend less upon the private ownership of real, usable property, and more upon property that is institutional and abstract, beyond individual control, such as money, insurance policies, certificates of deposit, stocks, etc. And as our private economies become more abstract, the mutual, free helps and pleasures of family and community life will be supplanted by a kind of displaced citizenship and by commerce with impersonal and self-interested suppliers...
The great enemy of freedom is the alignment of political power with wealth. This alignment destroys the commonwealth - that is, the natural wealth of localities and the local economies of household, neighborhood, and community - and so destroys democracy, of which the commonwealth is the foundation and practical means.” - Wendell Berry
