Why not expand the vocabulary we have at our disposal? I know psychedelics, especially DMT, have opened my linguistics up quite a bit over the past few years.

Wordsmiths?

Just post a word, followed by the pronunciation, followed by the definition/sentence usage.

Great thread! Let's start with:

Vocabulize. Voe-CAB-you-lies.

To make up words that generally will make sense, even if they are not in any official dictionary.

This thread is for the purpose of vocabulizing.

Gadabout

[gad-uh-bout]

noun
1.
a person who moves about restlessly or aimlessly, especially from one social activity to another.
2.
a person who travels often or to many different places, especially for pleasure.

"I bet a lot of the DMT-Nexians are just a bunch of gadabouts!"
"Think more than you speak"
"How do you get rid of the pain of having pain in the first place? You get rid of expectations"
"You are everything that is. Open yourself to the love and understanding that is available."
"To see God, you have to have met the Devil."
"When you know how to listen, everyone becomes a guru."
" One time, I didn't do anything, and it was so empty... Almost as if I wasn't doing anything. Then I wrote about it. It was fulfilling."

This is a great thread idea. I get so tired of drug users saying, "Wow man that was amazing . . . . it's beyond words dude!" Yeah, okay, . . . . maybe. I have always said that a good PSYCHONAUT, among other things, works their entire life to expand their working vocabulary. Not just learn new words but use them.

No need to show off or to be sill like Edgar Allen Poe. This way to the egress, right? No, that is not the idea imo. The idea is expanding one's ability to express oneself accurately using a language that has more words in it that most on the planet.

Peregrination . . . this was a favorite word of my mothers before her death. I find I use it often and it works for psychedelic journeys too . . .

peregrination
  Use Peregrination in a sentence
per·e·gri·na·tion
[per-i-gruh-ney-shuhn] Show IPA

noun

1. travel from one place to another, especially on foot.
2. a course of travel; journey.
Origin:
1425–75; late Middle English peregrinacioun (< Middle French peregrinacion ) < Latin peregrīnātiōn- (stem of peregrīnātiō ) a traveling abroad. See peregrinate, -ion

Synonyms
1, 2. trip, excursion, expedition.
"But even if nothing lasts and everything is lost, there is still the intrinsic value of the moment. The present moment, ultimately, is more than enough, a gift of grace and unfathomable value, which our friend and lover death paints in stark relief."

Thank you for this lovely and fascinating thread as I have a keen interest in linguistics. Indeed I have found that entheogens specifically mushrooms seem to give me a sense of poetic potency. One of my favorite words at the moment is:

Nubivagant (adj.) (nU-bi-‘vA-gant)

From Latin nubes (“cloud”) + vagant- (“wandering”).

(comparative more nubivagant, superlative most nubivagant)

(rare) Wandering in the clouds; moving through the air.

In psychiatry, the term neologism is used to describe the use of words that have meaning only to the person who uses them, independent of their common meaning. This tendency is considered normal in children, but in adults it can be a symptom of psychopathy or a thought disorder (indicative of a psychotic mental illness, such as schizophrenia). People with autism also may create neologisms.Additionally, use of neologisms may be related to aphasia acquired after brain damage resulting from a stroke or head injury.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neologism

any idea if we are heading in the the neologist territory , and is this a good thing ?

edit : i could be wrong and that is the usual for me so...... keep on keeping on peopleLaughing

edit again : perhaps if we share the words with each other as is the purpose of this thread , we will transcend neologism alltogether and head for clear waters

Here's one I invented:

NINJUG

Etymology: I was in the kitchen, my girlfriend was chopping something, I snuck up on her like a ninja gave her a hug: NINJA + HUG = NIN-JUG (Ninjug). A stealth hug.

I can really blow some minds with this book I have: it's called 2000 Most Challenging and Obscure Words.

Example: Exclaustration (eks klos TRAY shuhn) n. Enclosed place.

Isagogic (eye suh GOJ ik, -GOG-) adj., meaning Introductory.

Those two words are obscure enough that my computer's spell check had never heard of it.

(the book give a full history and etymology of each word, but I don't feel like typing it all out)
Fear, belief, love phenomena that determined the course of our lives. These forces begin long before we are born and continue after we perish. We cross and recross our old paths like figure skaters; our lives are not our own. From womb to tomb, we are bound to others. Past and present. And by each crime and every kindness, we birth our future.

Alright this one might not be all that obscure to some of you, but it is still one of my favorite words.

Autodidact
au·to·di·dact [aw-toh-dahy-dakt]
noun
a person who has learned a subject without the benefit of a teacher or formal education; a self-taught person.

I taught myself that word. Laughing
