Well they certainly are photogenic!

I am just finishing off a rather busy week, but I should have some good pictures to share this weekend.

Here's a few updates of some of the plants above, plus a couple new guys. They are loving the season and being outdoors in the natural sun.

Alright, been a while, but time for some updates.

The first couple are the same mimosa opthalmocentra from last year. Also got mostly this year's new babies, some cacti, mitragyna speciosa (kratom) and a sally.

Did you grow those cute trichocereus (in white pots) from seeds ? If yes, how old are they and did they grow under artificial lights or our beloved star we call sun ?

The cute trich babies in the white pots were recent gifts, so I can't answer how they were started or exactly when. My guess is that they are about a year old (maybe started early last fall) and they were probably started under lights. I got 8 of them over the winter and had them in a windowsill waiting for summer (they were hardened off early this spring), and three I just got a week or two ago. Those three seem to have been hardened off when I got them.

I have grown some from seeds as well, though. I don't think cacti seedlings can handle the full intensity of the sun their first year, for the most part. You could probably do a windowsill or of course grow them in a shadier area outside if you don't have lights.

I noticed my seedlind (~8 months old) didn't like full tropical sun and even under a shade cloth they are quite different (stocky) from what i can see on the web. I don't think it's a bad thing but i'm wondering if i loose some mass gain.

What species of trich are those? So you grew them outdoors from seed? It looks like you have a killer climate... might as well take advantage of that.

I'll try to get the sow date for those seedlings. It's likely they were sown sometime last summer, so they may be a little less than a year. Here's a pic of the 8 older ones(open pollinated scopulicola, huanocoensis x macrogonus, macro x bridgesii, werdermannius). I think these are all the same age and grow under the same conditions.

This other seedling is the one of the three bridgesiis in the post from 06/23/2014. It's a short growing season for cacti here, so they have to be dormant several months a year but it's taking off this Spring.

Those are T. Pachanoi or Peruvianus, i don't know exactly because i messed up with labeling them (don't smoke weed folks ) and they are survivor of an huricane that mixed them.

Wow, the growth of this bridge is impressive despite the short growing season.

Amazing. I don't think I could handle that many plants, I tend to procrastinate too much. I even gave all my peyote seeds to a special friend, I just don't have time and energy for them. I'll get a couple of plants from this person later.

Those acacia confusas are looking quite good, I'm happy to see they have such a good home. I gave all mine away except for 4, have 2 seeds left, same with the madenii, kept 2, have 1 in a pot and one in the ground. I really enjoy sharing them. Here's 2 confusas (one has a desmanthus growing along side in it's pot) and a madenii, and the acacia caroleae which are sleeping (I butchered that spelling)

I can confidently say that all 3 of these acacias are quite tuff. I've been really busy lately and have been neglecting them, yet they still look great. Of course it does rain almost daily though.

Hey, thanks, BundleflowerPower. I've totally had a couple, "Oh shit, I'm in over my head with plants!" moments , but really, being out with my hands in the dirt is my favorite place.

I'll add a better pic of the baby confusas when I have a minute. Such a kind soul who sent those seeds. I'm getting to redeem myself with maidenii this Spring after a couple misfires last season, but yeah, my second year confusas handled low light indoors all winter like a champ, so I'm gearing more towards acacias and away from mimosas.

Looks like an awesome garden Continuum the mimosas are beautiful and they always catch my eye first every time I see one. I can't wait to grow some Acacias next year.

I'm also doing this, acacias seem to be a bit better equipped for my environment, with madenii much, much more cold hardy. I'm pretty sure that confusa is more cold hardy than mimosa as well. My cousin lived in tawain for a while, said confusa grows all over on the part of the island with the exact climate we have here.

I never realized how fast a madenii grows, it's going to look nice in the yard.
I really like acacia caroleae as well, I wonder what it'll look like when larger. It grew bipinate leaves at first, for much longer than madenii, now it appears to have philodes with the compound leaves on the ends. Acacias sure do grow crazy at first lol.

That's a caroleae in that pic? I had a few seeds, but they sprouted really weakly, didn't want to shed their seed coats, and then all died. Not sure what the deal was, but they weren't happy, that's for sure.

Here's a couple pics of this season's confusas. I've got 7 or 8 after giving some away. I can't speak to total cold tolerance, but my second year ones were growing like crazy when we were having low 40's every night this Spring after going back outdoors. The mimosas did not like the low light overwinter in my dining room with a few measly t8's, but the confusas were totally fine.
