Hi all,

I watched this documentary last night. Its pretty amazing what this guy can do: multiply 4 digit numbers in his head, memorize PI to 250,000 decimal places, learn a full language in a week, and other math feats that no other person on earth can do.

How does he do it? Well, he describes numbers as shapes and colors. The answers to math problems seem to appear in his mind, as if he's pulling the answers out of thin air.

I wanted to share this here because the doctors briefly talk about how the number, color, and shape parts of his brain appear to be wired together. This concept reminded me of LSD.

Also, after watching this, I closed my eyes and started to focus on one number at a time (sober, not on any chemicals). I received very distinct visions of the numbers 1-6.
1: Three spheres, with purple triangles covering them
2: Thin lightning bolt, from upper right down to lower left of vision field
3: Reptile like skin that moves
4: Glowing rectangle, almost white
5: Similar shape to Greek capital letter Tao, glowing like 4
6: Shape similar to the tip of spear, no color

Is this a potential way to improve one's number abilities? I have no idea, but it sure is fun as the shapes, colors, and patterns that came to me resemble DMT visions.

Enjoy!

Savants are indeed extremely fascinating... thanks for the vid! I think people like Alan Snyder and Tony Wright have shed a lot of light on the question of how they do it, but much is still a mystery.

Here's an interesting infographic on savants
