The problem with consoles is the games. Some games are on only one of them. I would look at what future games are coming out and base it off that first.
I always preferred the Xbox controller over the PlayStation one. Although I do believe you can get a controller that mimics the other consoles design for both.
I personally find the kinect gimmicky. As well as sonys version.
I played halo 4 and I hated it. A new company owns the rights so I predict future halo games will suck as well.
I tossed in the towel and ended up building a powerful PC. Quite a few of the games that I want to play will also be on PC. Most games work well with an Xbox controller plugged in buy I prefer keyboard and mouse. All the other "new" functions of the next gen console have been on PC for a long time.
And there's the oculus rift. I have the dev kit and am extremely excited for the retail version.
I started as a PC gamer, switched to console for quite awhile, and I can say I'm probably a PC gamer for life. I got rid of all my consoles a few months ago.
