I just woke up from deep sleep felling a body sensation very similar to DMT I actually woke up thinking I was tripping on DMT. Since I was half asleep I thought- why am I tripping on DMT this is strange- then I noticed I could hear the very high pitch sound that has been described here as the carrier wave . I started focusing on the wave and I could Get almost 70% of the body sensation I felt on DMT before . the 6k hz wave didnt leave until 10 min later after I woke up... it is actually still there in the background if i concentrate on it i can intensify it. The only thing is that i didnt get visuals. But the sensation is similar enough. Thus has led me to believe that r.e.m sleep is in deed a dmt trip we just can't remember. This is crazy
,because it means that we are actually going to hyperspace every night! What do you think? I can see a lot of research Being done in this department.

Interesting. thank you for the link. I will definitely hear the audio when I get home.

Has anyone done any research of the relation between dmt and r.e.m sleep?

According to what I've read in the spirit molecule, there isn't much evidence to say that dmt has any involvement in dreams or r.e.m sleep.

Also, I've never had a dream which I could familiarise with a dmt trip. Although, I do start yawning a hell of a lot and want to lay down and sleep when I smoke dmt. Also, there's the factor of your body being asleep when you dream as opposed to being awake when smoking dmt. If dmt is present through dreams, then different states of consciousness would most probably be a contributing factor to the experience.

The whole thought process on low-medium doses of dmt does feel similar to some dreams I have. But then this could just be because I'm using the same brain to dream and trip.

There's some more info in this thread: https://www.dmt-nexus.me...aspx?g=posts&m=85866

I did see a little bit on sleep paralysis in that thread. I've personally found that sleep deprivation hallucinations can be identical to sleep paralysis hallucinations which is interesting. Seems obvious but it's just like your brain is making you have dreams whilst you are awake in both instances.

I can elaborate on the sleep dep/sleep para hallucinations if you want but this post is already pretty long ha
Everything I say is actually false and I'm not real.

I don't mean to dismiss your experience, but I would be careful with getting too ahead of yourself here. Many people including myself have gone into DMT-type states in dreams and even to some degree while "sober" many times, but, I don't think that, even if DMT is involved (which I'd bet it will turn out to be), it would be so simple as these states always being solely an endogenous DMT experience. Many peoples dreams aren't very DMT like (at least, not the ones they consciously remember, which could be a small percentage). But regardless, my main point is that there would probably be a number of neural processes and chemicals involved in mediating that experience during REM (or sober for that matter)

It can be an awesome experience though, no doubt. One of the most reliable ways to enter tryptamine/beta-carboline esque states during dreams for me has been to meditate while in a lucid dream. It usually just happens spontaneously though for me during dreams, and is usually like some sort of weird beta-carboline/tryptamine mix than just DMT alone...usually

I agree with uni here.

DMT very well may play a role in dreamstates but it is only one of dozens of endogenous tryptamine and beta-carboline compounds present in the brain that modulate states of consciousness. DMT is an interesting substance no doubt, but people have the tendency to get too hung up on it and neglect the much more rich and intricate nature of human neurochemistry which in essence functions along the lines of some kind of complex endohuasca.

Interesting, thanks for the replies. Last night I actually dreamt that I smoked dmt. And I was blasted to hyperspace but it wasn't as intense as the "real" experience of doing it. It was like a dream interpretation of hyperspace

So due to the posts on the forum and my recent dream it seems that what could be happening is that dmt was such an intense life changing neural creating experience that my unconscious mind has been paying very close attention to examining the state and the experience, thus I have very weird dmt type feelings and dreams.

I still don't exclude that dmt states can be experienced in deep r.e.m sleep. But until I actually have a breakthru experience without dmt I think I will not believe so much on the r.e.m idea.

thanks for the help
