I do agree that having a hand in producing/growing/extracting/preparing one's own entheogens can add a wonderful element to the experience(s). But, it is worth mentioning that there is a distinct possibility that the OP may try DMT one time, decide it is not something he wants to investigate any further, and never try it again. An extraction is an awful lot of work for potentially only one experience.
Not to mention the very large gap between a person being comfortable with their significant other ingesting a psychedelic compound, and a person being comfortable with their significant other feloniously "manufacturing" a psychedelic compound in their shared household using semi-hazardous reagents and kitchen chemistry procedures they may or may not fully understand. I am not trying to bastardize or demonize the extraction process, but I could see it being pretty intimidating from an outside perspective.
