I'm getting ready to start a mycology hobby, for several reasons. To learn, to grow personally, to grow fungus and to get some mushrooms to see if they will help with my headaches.

I've looked at some posts on the shroomery, mostly teks and grow logs, and there seems to be a huge amount of good information on the site. Good.

I have very little experience with mushrooms, mostly low doses that resulted in extreme anxiety.

To be 100% honest, despite all of my previous experiences with psychedelics, I am afraid of mushrooms. I've heard some horror stories of people becoming very confused, even on moderate doses and getting injured or arrested, or the famous "running down the street with no pants on."

I want to do as much research as possible and find the best, most effective way to ingest mushrooms that will minimize nausea, or any side effects that may cause distress during the trip. So, I looked up "plugging mushrooms", which is the rectal administration of a mushroom tea for those of you who don't know.

The sheer ugliness I found in the related threads on the shroomery was repulsive. Homophobia and deep immaturity from people who I would hope had learned something from their experiences. What a bummer.

I don't ever want to go back to the site. I guess if I do, it will be purely for informational purposes. I mean, I've seen some idiocy and ugliness here (I can be a sarcastic a-hole sometimes, so I've contributed too), but the wonderfully attentive mods seem to keep it in check.
The Nexus seems to foster a loving, respectful environment. I feel at home here. I really do love this place and the people here. Some of you have literally helped to change my life in amazing ways. I just want you all to know how
appreciated you are. Thank you for existing.

If you are looking for a mushroom oriented place to hang out, i'd check out mycotopica. I understand your mushroom anxiety. Its sort of the new LSD when it comes to negative propaganda. This is changing thanks to the new studies on end of life anxiety and whatnot. I believe its mostly how we preprogram us to these substances. Mushroom comeups are always full of anxiety for me but it passes. Never had confusion on low to medium doses. I don't know...there is something about them that makes you feel very vulnerable but that's about it or me.

Hi Niles,

Even though the Shroomery has some excellent information about anything that has to do with mushrooms I do understand your message. I too enjoy the Nexus much more, it feels more like a community and has a wider range of topics at your disposal.

Concerning your fear about mushrooms based upon those so called horror stories, my opinion about those are as follows:

SET AND SETTING!!!

If you are going to take mushrooms take them somewhere where the chances of getting arrested are as close to zero as possible ie. at home or in the woods somewhere.

Do it with people that you trust and that you know well or ask for an experienced sitter.

Do not mix them with other substances like alcohol or speed and go running around a busy city. The reason why the fresh mushrooms got banned in Holland in 2008 was because some dude killed his dog supposedly on mushrooms. Turned out this was not the case at all.

What I'm trying to say is, use them with respect, humbleness and everything will turn out fine. You might (probably will) have some rough moments even bad trips, but if you stick to these simple principles there is nothing to be afraid of.

Do I hear a Sc-iFi novel in the making? Smile

JBArk
JBArk is a Mandelthought; a non-fiction character in a drama of his own design he calls "LIFE" who partakes in consciousness expanding activities and substances; he should in no way be confused with SWIM, who is an eminently data-mineable and prolific character who has somehow convinced himself the target he wears on his forehead is actually a shield.

Yeah shroomery is quite different than nexus, although i can enjoy the immature "trippin balls" kind of talk there sometimes.

I only hang out in the shroomery when the temp falls below 60, it's rained for a week, until the first frost.

Then I go away for nine or ten months. The hunting subforum has some good folks in it, otherwise like I say all to often...

Speaking of Shroomery, I didn't want to open a new topic just for this... but I recently wanted to sign up mainly for the vast information there that's only accessible if you're signed up... there's of course the TOR block, but I found other ways, but now it's rejecting all my (totally real) e-mail addresses as "non-existent".

It doesn't accept my riseup.net address, butfor some weird reason when I change it to riseup.com (which DOES make it a non-existent address), it accepts it. Messed up. It's quite obviously some kind of bug, or bad design. Could someone who's on that site post a query in the site feedback forum?

(After disabling javascript, I managed to get an actual error message. The check is rejected as spam. Ironic.)
