Kratom might be great, if you are already experienced with it. You need to get your dose right with kratom (sorry, you may already know all this) and a low dose will have stimulant effects--you want the higher dose. It seems like it would be a bit of an art, getting the right kratom buzz to pleasantly alter the shroom trip, without stupifying it, so it may not be worth it. To answer your question--no, i have zero experience with herbs to mellow you out before tripping! Except for weed--that works fairly well. A single drink of your favorite booze plus one or two tokes.

My best recommendation here however is the lemon tek. Soak them bad boys in lemon sauce for 30 minutes, add some honey and the long difficult mushroom come up becomes a short and sweet step up into elevated consciousness.

I appreciate your perspective.

Will they really help though? Admittedly, the only herb on that list i tried was kratom. Which was disorienting at the time but after 30 minutes or so i felt rejunevated and courageous enough to take a dose of mushrooms so.. It might be more useful BEFORE you venture and rid yourself of anxiety before it happens. Just like the lemon tek. Take precautions, i think that is actually a much better idea rather than dealing with anxiety when it is too late anyway.

A shower is also very good. 2-3 hours of tripping doesn't sound that long anymore when you just took a warm shower.
Maybe sex is a good mind altering substance? You could try looking into aphrodesiacs for herbal remedies.

I think comeup anxiety on mushrooms is perfectly normal, but passes within the first hour in my experience. During this time, i like to be in a safe place without any distractions from the outside world. I've researched Kava Kava in conjunction with mushrooms and found a thread on the shroomery saying that comeup anxiety is due to norepenephrin release and purely "chemical". Not sure if this is true, but some have taken Kava with success. I would still proceed with caution as Kava is also a mild MAOI.

Maybe some plain old chamomile tea, or valerian?

These herbs seem innocuous enough not to interfere too much with the mushroom experience, if used in moderation. (but I'm no expert)

I've meant to try to add some chamomile to a changa blend, also for its anxiolytic properties.

I find sex is awesome for coming down due to the natural chemicals/endorphins released (don't we all haha). However, my cousin told me once on an LSD trip his gf's head kept morphing into a werewolf Shocked , so not sure if this would be helpful on the up

Same thing here. Sex didn't work because no matter how i tried i kept seeing Terence Mckenna's face. However much i love him, i just love him platonically. Things might have just been different with a lusting herb. Oh Mckenna!! Very happy

Also, exercise gets those endorphins running! I find doing Yoga very helpful during a mushroom trip. I think in full psychedelic visionary state the yoga can really positevely put you in control of the trip as well!

(haven't tried any of this though, i also rarely get to the visionary state)

Laughing

I notice all mentioned herbs so far are far more sedative than anxiolytic.
I grow and cure Heimia herb for a mate whos quite prone to benzodiazapine withdrawals, a smoke of it fixes her uncontrolled anxiety episodes and reduces other withdrawal symptoms, I guess Heimia is GABAergic. Might be worth a smoke.
Lavender massage oil or a lavender oil pill might be worth a try as well, the pills are clinically demonstrated to be an effective anxiolytic.

I personally always just figured come-up anxiety was a normal part of the self limiting aspect of the psychedelic experience.

A strong mushroom comeup can sometimes feel like
An impending title wave or approaching freight train .
I find a super secure setting is the best starting place .
I've also found a shamanic approach of rhythmic chanting
And movement can help to deal. Sometimes a passive approach
Is not the best thing .
The mushroom energy can be overwhelming sometimes
And just as I would brace myself crossing a rushing river
Or hold steady in a strong wind I find a grounding position and chanting helps
During that intense , impending comeup .

Sometimes even pretending that your not scared can help believe it or not .
Also I pay very close attention to mushroom dose using a gram scale
Always . Lately I've been finding that cacao is very synergistic with mushrooms.
The only way of discovering the limits of the possible is to venture a little way past them into the impossible.

There is some great advice in this thread, and I would not disagree with any of it. The herbs I have used in the past for anxiety are: skullcap, passionflower, blue lotus, kava kava (medium-low doses), kratom (medium-high doses of high grade leaf), valerian, wild lettuce extract, and poppy pod tea/opium/extracted morphine (I do not recommend any of these, particularly morphine). In the past I have tried all of these for anxiety in day to day life, and most of them during visionary trances.

The most effective, from most to least, have been kratom, kava kava, and valerian. As doodazzle mentioned low doses of kratom are more stimulating, high doses are more sedating, and finding the right dose with kratom is tricky. I would recommend experimenting with it a bit before relying on it for anxiety during an experience. That way, you can figure out a good dose for you and weigh/capsule that dose ahead of time. Kava kava tea has always worked very well for me as well. I don't often make mushroom tea, but next time I do I think I will add a couple teabags of kava to it.

Auxin has piqued my interest, I am going to do some experimenting with heimia in the near future. Thanks Auxin!

I've been smoking Salvia apiana or white sage lately and I find it very relaxing. I haven't personally tried it during a trip to calm down, though I find it mellows out some doubt/anxiety when I mix it with marijuana. I don't usually use herbs/substances to mellow out mushroom come ups personally, and I think its very important what Felnik mentioned with regard to proper grounding, set/setting and breathing. Though I think everyone is different, and if you experience profound anxiety then do what you need to to handle it.

In my experience (although fortunately it didn't happen to me), LSD + cannabis = freaking out and becoming a born again Christian.

Lemon Balm. If Lemon Balm can relax you into an Ayahuasca experience (which it can), then it should be able to do the same with other Psychedelics. And also Lemon Balm calms the stomach so there's no nausea or stomach pains. I'd def. give it a shot if i were you. Also, smoking Passion Flower apparently can give you a mild anxiolytic effect, and can also briefly intensify the experience and increase visual activity.
