There was in interesting article about DMT on HuffPo this evening. The primary focus of the article was how much more popular DMT has become in the last few years (this is taken from the GLobal Drug Survey Info). The stat that blew my mind was: Quote:The global survey's findings are supported by numbers from another survey administered by the U.S. government, the National Survey on Drug Use and Health. That sampling found that the number of people in the U.S. who have used DMT in some form has been up almost every year since 2006 -- from an estimated 688,000 in 2006 to 1,475,000 in 2012. what would be really interesting is to find out if that many number of people continue to use DMT illusions !, there are no illusions there is only that which is the truth

Yes, and those surveys also might create a false representation... I mean, the psychedelic community consists of a different type of people than some other drug-related subcultures and they/we might be more likely to participate in such a survey than for instance crack- or meth-heads... Which would imply that the relative amount of psychonauts compared to users of other types of drugs might be exaggerated by those surveys? Nonetheless I am pretty sure that our numbers are growing My avatar was taken from google images and is actually a work of art by NEIL GIBSON, credit where credit is due! If you haven't heard of DMT yet, you will interesting findings from the global drug survey, not sure what increasing popularity means for the beloved molecule. I seriously doubt it bodes well towards accessibility in the future, though. It's quite possible that this was a duplicate subject thread that was merged with yours due to them covering the same article, in order to avoid forum clutter. It was a merge, better to keep it all in one thread. Sorry for any misunderstanding.

Oh man, apologies, no nastiness absorbed, I didn't see the OP when I looked thru todays posts. Still kinda funky we picked the exact same quote. So,now that that confusion is outta the way, what does this reportage imply? The piece takes pains to point out that the DMT flash is not a "fun" experience, but one that is to be more or less endured, that points to its use a being other than a "party drug". (we all know that). Also its relevance to age-old traditions of visionary healing and how that is preserved, after a fashion, by a good portion of DMT and aya users is pointed out.Do these things say there is a growing population of individuals that want to elevate their consciousness through chemical means? That people are turning en masse to this ancient method of spiritual healing in this time of disconnect? Hopefully, there will be a wave of positive attention directed at the molecule and its use that will meet the inevitable one of closer scrutiny by agencies of power as the population of DMT users increase. Maybe we'll reach a point of critical mass like that of cannabis users in the states are enjoying, but a lot faster, lol! Sine experientia nihil sufficienter sciri potest -Roger Bacon *γνῶθι σεαυτόν*

I really hope you're right about the positive wave, but on the other hand, I can totally imagine people who think too highly of themselves thinking they can handle it, freaking out, and proceeding to demonize it. The comments section on the article would be hilarious if it weren't so disheartening. Where did people get this stupid idea that dream were DMT trips?
