Hello,

Some ideas are forming inside my head - but my lack of knowledge once more is a very limiting factor...

The key to putting 2 and 2 together so my ideas can sublimate into one is the following question which I am unable to answer...

If dehydrated epsom salt is added to an aqeous solution, does it only bind H2O molecules or also the solute? In other words, if dehydrated epsom salt is added to an aqeous solution, does the solution become more saturated with the initial solute?

If so, you may expect me to make a total fool of myself by coming up with a new (theoretical) extraction method - who's in for a laugh?

sulfate salts preferentially bind water, so epsom salts will dehydrate nonpolar solvents, but it won't concentrate the solute. sorry

So if one would have a solution of water and fumarates, add dehydrated espom salt and then filter, would the fumarates be filtered off or not?
