First off thank you Melodic Catastrophe for putting together your TAO tek, I'ts very useful and organized.....Only thing is, after doing my second base (one manske completed already) I'm not seeing my harmalas settle out as nicely as they did after the first basing (sodium carbonate) ....I understand that there is less plant matter and sludge, but they don't seem to be settling. I'm a little afraid to put it through a coffee filter because there is alot of alks here and a filter will just clog (doing a 950+ gram extract)........ What to do???? astralspice attached the following image(s): 2013-09-30 08.53.40.jpg (1,040kb) downloaded 191 time(s).REALITY 5.0

Me personally, I'd pour it all into a bigger measuring cup like one that will hold a liter or whatnot, and add more water so that the Harmalas have more room to precipitate out. Also when filtering, a nice cheap cloth is good, something like a bandana should be able to catch all the Harmalas and you can twist the top of the bandana as to close it and then ring the liquid out into a container just to make sure you don't lose anything.
Also a little tip when dealing with cloths or coffee filters when filtering, you can grab a spoon a lightly keep tapping the strainer holding the filters or cloth, and it will allow the liquid to drain faster. Another tip, when making one's Rue brew one should filter each boil from the seeds instead of trying to filter everything at once, it's a lot easier to filter that way, especially if you boil the whole seeds rather than the ground seed.

Buy a vacuum filtering set up.. If you get a hand pump, get mityvac silverline.
Its not gonna be expensive but sooooo worth it.

How long has the solution been sitting there?

Thanks for your inputs. It eventually settled after a few days and I've washed it with distilled water 3 times since and It's had no problems settling. Looks like I've lost 50% of the alks after washing . Like I had said, I used about 950g of mostly ground rue (only cost $35 ) I will make sure to weigh it up and reply with the final yeild..... I've never extracted rue (although I have a bunch sitting around) but I know with caapi extraction depending on the vine it would take up to a week for all the particulate to settle and allow for decanting and adding of new water. From end to beginning, I had one extraction take an entire month. It is weird some vine seems to produce heavier alkaloids that sink easier and some vine just wants to produce these alkaloids with a built in anti-gravity generator.

If there is still fluorescence left in the mix, would that mean there is still alks that haven't dropped? .. I was using sodium carb for basing, poured into mix until it turned milky and added a bit more just in case, but there is still fluorescence in the water while washing. ...I have been keeping everything in another container with lye (was trying to stay away from this) and there is some darker alks falling out but not very much.... 950 grams of partially ground rue was boiled 4x2 hours, filtered, based with sodium carbonate, followed by a manske then another basing and washed with water.....took a long time and a lot of patience ended up with a light tan colored product weighed in at 23 grams.....and prob another 2-3 grams sitting in a lye solution which I'm probably going to discard on account of my small fear of lye. Even though I yielded way more than I would ever need, I'm not sure if I'm happy with the yield. I've read that you can get 5% of relatively "pure" harmalas which means that I could of had double. I didn't use a ph tester so i'm wondering If I only pulled harmaline and left harmine behind (or vise versa).....It was alot of fun either way Here is a picture: I figured Id share this sweet lamp I just had to buy today as well, looks much cooler than the pic shows but it's damn trippy! astralspice attached the following image(s): 2013-10-12 20.18.30.jpg (1,101kb) downloaded 122 time(s). 2013-10-12 20.20.22.jpg (956kb) downloaded 122 time(s).REALITY 5.0
