Does anyone know if the alkaloids prefer a certain area in the solvent? Do they rise to the top or sink to the bottom?
The reason I ask is if you are:
Using a sep funnel are the majority of alks going to be in that least few drops before you get to the aqueous layer or do they come out as soon as you open the valve.
Decanting with dry teks, will the alks flow out first or begin to get lost in the aqueous mud toward the end of pouring.
I assume the alks are spread through out the solvent, but do they prefer a position?
We actually worship incomprehensibility as the highest form of explanation. ~TM
