Last year i was with my parents in a traditional shipibo ayahuasca ceremony. Unfortunatly my mom had high blood pressure and strong anxiety so she couldn't drink the medicine. In the second ceremony my father did drink half a cup of Aya, to my delight, but mom was shocked as she saw us drinking (me 2 cups

).
Aya was very gentle with my father i think (or he isn't telling me everything), he said it was enjoyable and he saw some "wavy" patterns. Nothing spectacular.
Both have gained a lot of respect for the medicine and the shamanic tradition, they don't believe the standard mainstream Antidrug propaganda in regards to this kinds of substances. But they still are fearfull to some degree (they fear for me). But for example i would think that my father is not afraid to take the medicine again.
It was definatly an immense positive experience.
Walter, what you experienced with your father seemed like an role reversal maybe thats why this act of kindness felt strange for you. Nevertheless you did absolutly the right thing. Physical contact to bring him back in his body in combination with calming frequencies. Well done Sir.
