Some thoughts on setting: nature vs isolated. Options

Just had some thoughts I wanted to share.
I've smoked a few times out in nature and I can say the visuals are great. The grass, plants and ground come alive. The trees look funny. Looking at the ground, it looks like an "infestation" of lesser organism(s). While it's fun to look at, I don't think there is much to be gained here.
From now on I'm going to try to minimize my senses. Eyes closed, laying down in the darkness. I feel like there is much more to see and be gained by exploring my own mind, instead of attaching myself to the outside world. Not to mention, it will probably also be easier to break through Laughing.

Well I prefer to be isolated in nature when the opportunity arises. My favorite setting for psychedelics is nighttime under the stars, far away from civilization.

I felt the same but when you tune in some pretty neat things happen to your mode of thought. During an open eye (indoors) I came to a strong understanding of why movements and sounds from other people while dosing is distracting, and sometimes uncomfortable. It's a lot like why sensory deprivation tanks work.

But the most profound were of course eyes closed. I used to use a beanie to help filter light from my eyes. I no longer need this to achieve the same effect.

If you vape a breakthrough dose it doesn't matter eyes open or closed. I prefer mushrooms outoors in nature.

I have barely got experience with DMT, so I can't say if it would be good to compare mushroom settings to DMT settings.

For me, with mushrooms, it is the following:
- I like to take them indoors, in the dark, when I am alone. This is so I can go 'explore my consciousness'.
- I like to take them outdoors in nature, from dawn till dusk, in a very small group of people. This is probably more a fun-activity. This makes me enjoy all the wonderous things in nature more. Also this is very relax to me.

However, my best experiences on mushrooms, have been these two things combined: Being in nature, enjoying nature and enjoying the few other people around you, makes you very happy. Then, when you isolate yourself and close your eyes, I think you have the best mindset you can ever have to start exploring your insides.

Maybe this could also be translated to DMT. Being in nature gives you a good mindset and isolating yourself by being away of people and closing your eyes gives you the right 'setting'.

But, as anrchy says, with a breakthrough dose you are not going to perceive your surroundings, so then it shouldn't really matter. Then I'd advice: do it at a place where you feel the most happy and the most comfortable.

The physical setting may not matter much, but those experiences that you have had in the hours and even days prior will.
One of the greatest things about cultivating a service oriented mindset is that you start to see the problems of the world as an opportunity to serve. The worst of disasters becomes an opportunity to help people. Life is much less daunting when you see even the negative as a blessing in disguise.

i love both

For me one isn't better than the other... They are just very different. I love darkness and there is undoubtedly lot to be gained from that, for obvious reasons that we all already know.. But there is lots to be gained from many settings. To me personally, nothing beats doing it in nature. If its beautiful, safe, and secluded, then I'd take breaking through while staring out into a gorgeous nature setting any day (even if just for how wonderful it is during the comedown). Its often much more re calibrating for me as well.

Having the plants literally come alive as some kind of cosmically intelligent ambassador to hyperspace and pull me in is beyond what words can even begin to relate. And if i want, i can always just close my eyes of course...The level of universal connection and love can be so tangible (and healing) in nature. It re-awakens this awareness of my connection with ourselves/the cosmos that is sometimes more lacking in silent darkness journeys. But each has its ups and downs, like i said

I feel compelled to say that my all time best experience was vaping at dawn on top of mt massiive in colorado looking out over the rest of the rockies. the sun was coming up while there were still stars in the sky. Something about the strength you can find when being exposed to nature is just awesome. Also when in nature I tend to keep my eyes open and my body just naturally goes to full lotus position without difficulty and I feel extremely centered in the present. Indoors is nice if only for comfort and safety, but letting yourself feel open to the cosmos is preferable to me. Cool

Maybe I just need a different outdoor setting. Sometimes it gets uncomfortable seeing all the insect-like things around you. Feels like a dead end to me.
I'm sure better environments lead to better experiences though!

Geuss it depends where you want to go.

IMO,if you want to see your existential surroundings in a different light or perspective admiring them outdoors in the sunshine or anywhere really where there is planet earth like stimuli

For Deep Hyperspace travel into other realms and dimensions,Deprivation of all sorts of stimuli(coming with isolation)helps as they tend to be reminders of your existence on the here and now and can keep you there,people resort to some extremes here some probably without the deprivation at all i find it works though,very well

Just with some experimentation and you'll find your sweet spot,just be open Thumbs up

It really just depends on where you are at in regards to working with dmt. After years of solo darkness journey's dmt became quite static for me and became pointless. This summer I began doing solo day blazes with a very special changa in a picturesque setting of some huge old growth trees and dmt opened up a way of journeying. The plants became my teachers and the lessons are abundant.

I can only speak for myself feel others probably know what I am saying. After a lot of dmt use breakthroughs change. I always am self aware now and can navigate around. Instead of just laying back and watching the big show I am a participant. For me breaking through isnt ego death or even leaving my body which doesn't happen any longer, its a clear deep connection with nature and the universal intelligence with a 2 way communication. This happens mostly in daytime out in nature. The journeys are as deep as they come but very different from the years of silent darkness.

Both settings have much to offer it just depends on where you are at with dmt. For you this may be a period that silent darkness offers the most benefit for others out in nature may un lock stuck journey's which happen to many people after long term use of the molecule.

For a great while reducing sensory input was vital to breakthrough. I think this is because breaking through is about holding a connection and distractions can break this connection. In time I have learned to hold the connection in settings that offer distractions.When this is possible the things that once would take away from your experience can now create a new world for you.

Explore all the different settings and never fence yourself into just one because as the classroom changes so do the lesson plans.

Some of my favorite trips ever have been at night in an outdoor gazebo, surrounded by a rich tapestry of nature sounds. Far better than any music. These are still mostly closed-eye trips, but the energy that comes through in that soundscape is both calming and universally huge.

I think it's vital to feel comfortable and secure when vaping, which can get slightly dodgy when outdoors. (Will a mosquito bite my eyelid while I'm peaking? Will a park ranger come by?) so unless you have a spot that allows you total relaxation and surrender, you're probably better off indoors.

Nature is very nice, but be very careful of your set and setting. Don't put your life at risk by ignoring this most basic of safety rules, and of simple common sense.

Best for me is in the daytime, shades on, looking up at the sky and clouds. That way the heavens are revealed to you. They will.
Meditate before you venture, take it seriously, use it as medicinal—it is good psychotherapy if needed. Realize that you, the Earth, others, and the Universe are all one and the same process. Then take that knowledge back to become, as you already are, one with nature. Eternity in every moment. Divinity in every particle. All is one organism.

Last time I smoked sitting to a lake. When I took the hit and it came up, there was something going on near the surface where I sat. Something was alive there. Anyways, it gave a very joyious feeling. Though it took me awhile to find a spot were I could let things go for 10 minutes and be sure not te be disturbed.

That's a concern, when you have nothing to be disturbed by - it's easy to let it go and be fine. But when someone can come dashing from the bushes or someone walking their dog, these are concerns and they influence the quality of the trip.
