I know that atypical antipsychotics generally act in opposition to entheogens (they antagonize 5-HT receptors while psychedelics agonize them), but what exactly is the subjective experience of taking an antipsychotic while on a psychedelic like? Do you just slide back to sobriety after taking a pill? Is it jarring? Presumably all spiritual experiences are terminated as soon as your 5-HT receptors start to shut down. Does anyone have experience with this? I would rather not waste an entheogen and go to the trouble of sourcing a controlled prescription substance just for the purposes of knowing the answer to this question (which has been bugging me for a while). That's not really true for all atypical a.p.'s, Risperidone and Ziprasidone are partial serotonin-dopamine antagonists, but Amisulpride and Aripiprazole are partial dopamine agonists. Whereas first generation a.p.'s are clearly dopamine 2 antagonists, Haloperidol, Flupenthixol,Chlorpromazine fall into that category.
My own personal experience of typical a.p.'s( Dopamine antagonists) go back a long way, and a brief ( unwarranted) foray with them convinced my that they are the most sinister and horrible drugs ever invented by man. Never, I repeat never, willingly take them alone or with any combination of psychedelics. It's almost as if the distressing effects of the ap. obliterate any other concerns. They will indeed clear up delerium quite quickly, but your left with an alienating cold icy fear which makes the unfortunate user litteraly wanting to jump out of their own skin! ( akathsia) Throw in a bit of Parkinsonian effects to boot, and well, your really going to have a ball!
It was over twenty fives years ago that I was subject to the ordeal, and I still shudder thinking back on it.
An exception might be Amisulpride at low doses, which clearly acts as a partial dopamine agonist, it's sort of "speedy", but don't take it for any length of time, your prolactin levels will soar to heights that'll obliterate your libido and may even give you a nice set of moobs ( man boobs)

I would stay away from the antipsychotics. They don't sound all too pleasant at all. Personally, when I go on an extended journey with acid or mushrooms, I like to have half a bar of xanax on standby. Just knowing I have it usually deters bad trips or gives me the confidence to be able to get through them without having to take the xanax. I've been holding onto the same 2 bars for like 6 years now. I practically never have to take it despite the numerous trips I've taken, but it helps just having it. If I'm in full-blown freakout mode, and I decide I need to take half a bar, it's always been enough to calm me down considerably and quickly. If you think the placebo effect is strong normally, just the act of swallowing a xanax is enough to instantly quell the anxiety when on a psychedelic. It doesn't abort the trip though. It may detract a bit from the trippiness, but it'll still have to run its course, though with the stress and anxiety alleviated, it becomes rather pleasant to finish out the trip, or perhaps be lucky enough to just drift off to sleep (just don't get frustrated if you still can't!) ^^ it might be a good idea to change that xanax bar now as it might have run its expiry date , since you've been holding it for 6 years illusions !, there are no illusions there is only that which is the truth

After ingesting, I can say that there was no loss of potency, it had been kept in a blister packet for all of those years though. - Here's some information on Anti-Psychotics and psychedelics that I found on Erowid.
