Great old psychoactive-related literature in the public domain

Another excellent topic by entropymancer: Thanks to the work of Google (on books.google.com) and Microsoft (who provides the resources for many of the books scanned at archive.org/details/texts) there are some great old references available for free reading and download.

Is this THE keeper? If so, do you mind if we post a scanned PDF here on the site? Either way, I'm ordering a hard copy now. Thanks for your work.

you've freely given a huge contribution to ethno research, it must be supremely frustrating not to be able to make as much money as it's worth, but many thanks Smile

I haven't read all of it, but this is a very interesting work on the nature of reality, enlightenment, quantum physics, neuroscience, and similar fields of interest.

„Geometric visual hallucinations, Euclidean symmetry and the functional architecture of striate cortex“

A study about why we see what we see when one uses psycedelics. Pretty hard to understand for me. I guess one needs serious math knowledge.

Cosmic Consciousness by Richard M Bucke.

"The medical doctor, Richard M. Bucke, wrote this book in the year 1900. It has circulated among a small group of mystics and religious seekers ever since. In brief, Dr. Bucke proposes that all the religious leaders of all religions throughout all history began their missions with a common subjective experience that he calls 'Cosmic Consciousness.' He uses ancient texts by these religious leaders to clarify his position, and this occupies most of his book. Many readers say this is a brilliant book. Alan Watts, for example, was an advocate of this book. Dr. Bucke also believes many poets were blessed with this same Cosmic Consciousness, including Walt Whitman, who was a personal friend of Dr. Bucke."

Great read. Found a hard-copy for a buck in a local spirit shop/bookstore. Quite a gem, can't believe how I stumbled across it. No mention of the psychedelic experience but still a good perspective and great resource.

Here's a link to the work of an author i really enjoyed, his work reminds a lot of Carlos Castaneda.

Don Miguel Ruiz is a Mexican author who claims to get his teachings out of ancient Toltec texts, the lessons might seem obvious to most people, but if we'd really practice them our world would become so much brighter.

It's really a guide to happiness

Some examples:

-Be Impeccable With Your Word.
-Don't Take Anything Personally.
-Don't Make Assumptions.
-Always Do Your Best.

The DMT Diaries: From Materialism to Modern Mysticism

This new book explores a number of concepts which chapters ranging on models of the universe to a chapter on Bill Hicks (odd, but funny), a chapter on McKenna, another on Strassman and Rogan, one on 5-MeO, and some others. A lot of the "classic" DMT literature is quoted quite regularly so many well-read members may be familiar with what the author is presenting, but he does so in a reasonable fashion, weaving his coherent narrative. While I may not agree with everything in the book, I think it's worth the read.
