I have been harvesting this stuff for a number of years. At first I thought it waws mugwort..then later thought it might be wormwood..then mugwort again..now I really just gave up assuming cus I dont know. I have consumed it anyway..it is active and does seem to produce vivid dreaming when a tea is drunk..the dry herb smells somewhat similar to cannabis when burned..smells very veyr nice fresh..mostly I used it for smudging and I have added it to changa for years. Well I have drunk tea from it many times and Im not dead so(dont do this at home!)..this stuff grows in abundance around here on all the beachs..I mean I harvest bags of it every year effortlessly and dont even really harm the patches of the stuff. jamie attached the following image(s): DSC05169.JPG (2,790kb) downloaded 90 time(s). Looks like Artemisia douglasiana to me. Could be wrong though. nameless The problem with wisdom is that it cannot be taught, but ignorance can.

It's definitely not artemisia absinthium. I am a flower and the world is made of sunshine. Everyday above ground is a good day, even if it is a rainy one.- purelyscientific

i think it's artemisia mexicana, which is similar to mugwort....mex artemisia is called itztauhyatl by the aztecs, which means water of the goddess of salt. it is said to be more psychoactive then wormwood, though it does not appear to have thujone, it is also said to be less toxic, and is used in an absinth like drink called yolixpa. in modern mexico it is used as an mj subsitute

The leaf structure looks similar to sweet wormwood I have growing. I am a flower and the world is made of sunshine. Everyday above ground is a good day, even if it is a rainy one.- purelyscientific

Looks a bit like Artemisia Vulgaris to me, allthough I thought A.Vulgaris' leaves were a bit pointy-er than those in the picture.
A.Absinthium's leaves & stems are a much paler green than those of the plant in the picture. Also A.Absinthium's leaves are much finer and more divided than A.Vulgaris's leaves. The green color of the leaves suggests it is A.Vulgaris, but I'm still not certain. A.Vulgaris's stem will at some places have turned magenta to deep, dark purple, but you can't see much of the stems in those pictures.
What could tell you more are the flowers. Go back there later in the season to see if this plant is bearing any flowers. Artemisia Absinthium will have loads of tiny, spherical flowers close to the stem: Almost Acacia like, minus the fluff & colors. Artemisia Vulgaris will have buds that look somewhat like Cannabis-buds, but paler & soft, fluffy & hairy in texture.
Maybe it's a natural hybrid between A.Vulgaris & A.Absinthium? Doesn't that happen?

^the stems are def a dark purple in many spots. I was harvesting more yesterday and its something that stands out about it when you see it in person. It does have flowers that resemble buds..I have seen it flowering many times. I will take pictures this year when the plants go into flower..thanks SKA! I have another artemisia like plant in my garden that comes up as a weed so I just sort of worked a few of them into the layout of my garden..I have no idea what it is but I will take some pictures later and post them here to see if anyong can ID them.. Long live the unwoke.
