How long can I keep B. caapi tea? Options

I made a nice B. caapi tea yesterday but didn't get the occasion to use it. Stored it in a sealed plastic bottle in the fridge.
Does anyone know how long I can store it for, before it goes "off" ?

People have reported it staying good for months in the fridge. I would drink it sooner than later, though. Make sure to smell it before reusing it.

Just close it well and later smell and look if there isnt any mold. There could also be some fermentation, which would not be a problem, you would just have to boil the alcohol off.

Does freezing help it last longer? Ive got loads of vine in a freezer and it has been for a year at least, im leaving the country for a long period and I dont want to throw it out and I cant drink it and hoping it will keep in my mothers freezer??

If you recook to sterilize and place in a relatively sterile jar in the fridge, it should last many, many months. I actually prefer to age my caapi some b/c it allows time for the plant matter to settle out and produce a beautifully clear caapi tea. Just be sure to recook all brews that have any unfresh smells.

Also do you call observe the hot/cold color change of caapi? Hot it's clear and orange. Cold it's opaque and more yellow.

yeah infinite I, freezer is good call.

sandtrout, indeed this color change happens, I suppose its because as the temperature lowers, the solubility of different compounds also lowers and these micro-particles precipitate, leaving an opaque look.

Another aya color change event was during an everclear aya leaf soak. When there was a lot of liquid it was a brilliant purple red like acai. But when there was a little bit of liquid it was the most beautiful emerald green. It was cool to see an eyedropped pull green out of purple.

I store brews for a few months on a regular basis. Never had one ever go bad. Just cap in well and stick it into the fridge.

Rue seems to ferment after a month or so..caapi never has for me. I have drink the fermented rue brews lots of time as well without any ill effects.

I was wondering about this too.

I had made some tea from 50 grams of caapi vine, boiled down to appr. 50 ml. I wanted to try and microdose some of it. Drank 4/5th over a couple of days, then forgot about it.

Now I have +/- 10 ml left. It's been standing in a longdrink glass, sealed tightly with plastic, for about a month, but outside the fridge.

I just took the plastic off to smell and I didn't notice any change (smells just as sweet/ foul as when I first brewed it lol). Also the color is unchanged. No signs of mold or decay. I'm kind of hesitant to try it out though...

sealed outside the fridge will be ok for a while, it will eventually ferment which you will taste right away. Has carbonation, more vinegar like ext but fermented ayahuasca is fine to drink. Some Shipibo I've drank with intentionally wait till the aya is fermented to drink it. I was never able to tell any differences in effects or purge between the 2. and if anything makes it taste more kambucha like.

since it is organic matter it will eventually grow mold and then its ruined. You could remove the patch of mold or filter it, re boil for 10 min and that would suffice but I wouldnt take the chance even though I know others that have done this.

Sealed in the fridge will last a Loooong time, I had aya over 9 months in the fridge no problems, and if you uses canning jars and seal, then double boil the mason jars to sterilize it should last decades in the fridge. The freezer too but it will separate your aya by precipitating out the actives to the bottom so shake it up real good if you freeze it once thawed out.

I realized I actually kind of like the smell of it, after I first thought it was foul-smelling. Thanks for clearing out. I will try the tea one of these days.

I notice with my yerba guayusa tea too, it takes a long time to turn bad, and I was wondering if the fact that these plants come from a high moisture climate like the amazone, has anything to do with this?
