Greetings fellow nexian's, I recently got very tired of having to buy toothpaste at the store because they usually only have popular brands like Colgate and Crest and if they do have an organic or natural based toothpaste, it us usually very expensive. So i researched how to make my own toothpaste. Some of you may already be onto this method, but for those who haven't heard of this and want to make they're own organic toothpaste look no further.
So the recipe only requires 1 ingredient. Coconut oil.
yep thats it its that easy, go out to the store and buy a fatty jar of coco oil . Obviously you can go further from there and add other oils or fresh herbs like peppermint into the jar to add flavor to the coconut taste, but mind you i've been using a batch of just oil and the taste is pleasant. The mixture doesn't need to be refrigerated and because coconut oil is antibacterial, antiviral and antifungal, it'll help keep your toothbrush clean and sanitary too.
Your mixture will change consistency based on temperature so one day it may be waxy and then watery another day.(viscosity changes).
I have been using this method of making toothpaste for a month now and let me tell you i am feeling the benefits! Not only is it Much cheaper than buying crappy toothpaste from a store, its so much healthier. My gums and teeth feel so much stronger and smoother.
By making your own toothpaste you are reducing your bodys intake of Sodium Flouride (we all here hate that one, killer of pineal!), Chlorine, Aspertame, Saccharin, Titanium dioxide, Parrafin and loads of other things that are not meant to be in human body!
And wait, just when you thought you'd expirienced all of the awesomeness of the mighty coco oil!
here is a list of other uses for this extremely useful oil.
1. you can use it as a butter or oil substitute in cooking. it heats quicker and is more stable at high temps than any other oil ive used (and i cook a lot!). Also It stays fresh much longer than vegetable oil and will not go rancid for quite some time.
2. Lotion or massage oil. Thats right you can even grab a fat dab on your fingers and rub it all over yourself! It feels so silky smooth and has an immediate relaxing effect and absorbs into the skin nicely and does not leave an oily feel afterwards. It really is perfect for massages.
3.Dandruff Remedy and Hair Conditioner. Coconut oil can effectively get rid of dandruff when rubbed into the scalp a couple times a week. It does make hair oily, of course, but I recommend massaging into the scalp before bed and leaving in overnight before rinsing out in the morning. It also helps strengthen hair and add shine.
4.For Shaving: Using coconut oil in the shower as a shaving soap gives a smooth shave with no irritation (speaking from a woman’s perspective here, don’t know about how it would work for guys). I usually rub on before getting in the shower and then shave in the shower. It doesn’t wash off and moisturizes legs while getting them silky!
BUT STILL!
As if all the above uses weren’t enough, studies have linked coconut oil to the following health benefits:
High lauric acid content can help lower cholesterol and blood pressure. It doesn’t increase LDL and helps keep arteries flexible and prevent atherosclerosis
Studies show that coconut oil may help increase thyroid health because of its unique combination of nourishing properties and the fact that it travels directly to the liver without the need for hormones or enzymes in digestion.
Coconut oil can help boost metabolism.
Since it travels directly to the liver, it is used for energy and not stored as fat. It also helps a feeling of satiety and can assist in weight loss.
Can increase bone strength by allowing better absorption of calcium, vitamin D and other minerals.
It’s antifungal properties have been shown to help reduce candida and yeast in the body and fight yeast infections.
Can help fight infection and flu due to its antibacterial, antiviral and antimicrobial properties.
There you have it folks, if your like me and am adamant about making as much of your own stuff as possible and increasing health benefits in the process - Go Out And Make Your Own Toothpaste.
