Would it be possible to set up say a 10 day waiting period before new members can post?I think this might help eliminate some of the spam.

That sounds like one hell of a good idea bro.

A 10 day waiting period may be a little long for some of the users but we may well go down that road if thers no other way to stop the spam. The Traveler and I will continue to improve and install anti spam mods so hopefully we won't have to take the waiting period method.

could you make it so that new members could post, but put a 10 day waiting period on starting new threads? that might be a way to go.

DMT-Nexus is quite popular and we are still using the dreaded phpBB board which attracts LOADS of spam.

Looks good Traveler.But I was the only person on-line at the moment I checked it and it saw me as a guest,not a member.Once it's up and running will all our old posts and membership accounts be transferred over or will we have to reregister?

anther idea towards spam prevention, maybe ask a question that can easily be looked up during registration. example Q:what year was DMT first synthesized in? A:1931 A bot would have trouble with that one I think

admin approval ? invite only ? an odd amount of time waiting period, ie; 1 hour 42 mins and 36 seconds ? or maybe that damned blurry random numbers and letters security thing ?

Well, first thing is to move away from phpBB The new forum is at: http://www.dmt-nexus.me/forum You can check it out already, except for the new users last month or so everybodys username/pw has been converted to this new forum now. Checking out the messages also, probably possible only the transfer will take a day or so. Good thing about this new forum is the fact it's made in my main language and I can change it easely on our demands.
