Hey everyone, just curious if anyone knows what the chances of blotter surviving extreme heat temperatures for about 20min. It would be the heat output from a laptop's videocard onto a tinfoil containing blotter.

I assume this isn't your average thread about the degrading of the compound but I have not found an actual temperature at which it is instantly (or practically instantly) destroyed, and I am curious if that amount of heat would be enough.

Thanks to all who read.

20 minutes shouldn't have degraded it too much but that's just a guess tbh

^ House's response is certainly the usual response when I attempted to research this... Oddly enough nobody ever posted back the results.

I'll ensure that with this scenario there will be an update from the participant.

EDIT: This is also a request that if anyone here has any sort of figures I would love to know for sheer knowledge purposes; all the controlled studies I can find are for long exposure at lower temperatures (which give little hope for this scenario).

Smuggle it in your mouth.

No, seriously, i would not chance it. I once had a blotter with me in a car for a festival and it lost basically 60% of its potency. Heat seems to be a serious threat to LSD.

There seems to be no firm answers to the OPs question other than to say that heat, moisture and light at certain wavelengths all degrade the molecule.

Theres a study which looks at degradation of LSD in urine which found , unsurprisingly, that higher temperatures for longer and with exposure to sun-light all hastened the process. The resulting degradation products did seem to be more stable than the parent compound.

Of note is that Sigma Aldritch state that LSD should be stored at -20 C, suggesting that temperatures warmer than this are likely to be detrimental but one can minmise this effect by attending to the other known degrading factors ie light and moisture. For a compound thats been around for over 50 years, there does appear to be a lack of (published) data on many aspects of its chemistry.
I am paranoid of my brain. It thinks all the time, even when I'm asleep. My thoughts assail me. Murderous lechers they are. Thought is the assassin of thought. Like a man stabbing himself with one hand while the other hand tries to stop the blade. Like an explosion that destroys the detonator. I am paranoid of my brain. It makes me unsettled and ill at ease. Makes me chase my tail, freezes my eyes and shuts me down. Watches me. Eats my head. It destroys me.

I think blotter pappers can help lsd survive extreme conditions, ive been to alot of festivals in hot countrys and even on day 7 the lsd blotters worked fine.

i think people overestimate how fast acid degrades, iv often kept blotters for up to a year just in bags lying around and iv never really noticed them becoming weaker. my guess is it will be fine still

Thats assuming that it is actually LSD and not one of the various other substances on blotter that people are commonly claiming to be acid these days. But ya I agree that acid seems more stable than what people give it credit for when it comes to degradation. Would be nice if there was a study of its half life given certain conditions. Perhaps someday.

Toast!

Better off printing a fractal and eating it.

Lesson be learned.

but lsd in those conditions is still very different from exposing lsd to really high heat, even if its just for 20 minutes

One time I was at music festival. I had about a quarter sheet of blotter in aluminum foil in a bag of weed. I was already pretty high and ended up placing the foil inbthe pipe by accident. The dude I was smoking with was like its not hitting man. To my surprise the foil was in the bowl.
Welll I quickly pulled it out and undid the aluminum foil. We had hit it at least 15 20 times foil was really hot. I get the foilbopenband the edges of the blotter were burnt. I assumed they were useless offered dude a couple and took the rest. Well lets just say i tried to hug a fire dancer while they where dancing and couldn't find my tent or friends for hours because I couldn't see. I ended up at somebody's camp where I waited it out till morning. So no even burnt it was still good dose still fluff good.Thumbs up

What is the physics of degradation - is it depletion of some groups or (+)-LSD transforms to its stereoisomers or reaction with air molecules (especially oxygen?) occurs or ... ?
