I'll be conducting my first brew within a week using acacia confusa root bark and syrian rue seeds. I think I have found a reliable recipe which calls for cooking 4-8 hours, but reading other reports on the Internet people claim to simply pour boiling water over the powder or only cooking for 30 mins and still having strong experiences. My question is how much does the cooking times effect potency for both materials?

I can only comment on mimosa/rue as it is the only thing I have experience with. I have read aconfusia is similar though. 3x30min boil has been plenty to get a strong experience. I have only had 4 experiences with rue/mimosa orally so take my info with some salt.

The rue seems to be directly related to length of the trip. at 3g rue 1x30min boil my trip was ~5 hours. 3g 3x30 seemed to be ~6 hours. I tried a bit over 4g of rue 3x30min boil and that trip lasted around 10 hours. I figure there may also be a factor of what/if anything is in your stomach and how fast your metabolism is.

On a side note, start much lower dose than you think you want. I was very silly on my first dose ever and had such an insanely intense fear trip, I almost never tried again. I tried a cold water extract without maoi as I had read it is active without maoi for some. Because it was completely non active for me I thought my mimosa was old/bad. So I started with 10g 3x30min boil. Assuming 1-2% that = a 100-200mg dose. STUPID high! I really did think I killed myself and spent what I thought was several lifetimes in a very dark place. There doesn't seem to be much info on..[A Confusa DMT].. yet] I have 228 grams of it coming soon...
That black void..[ Mimosa DMT]..experience sounds like too high a dose and reminds me of when i was an 18 year old exploring a new drug with a Friend..
The stuff called [asthmadore powder] an old [breathable asthma remedy].. that was a burnable green powder containing belladonna..
We both took one teaspoon orally each with juice and were totally gone everything was one big hallucination..
I spent hours talking to people and smoking cigarettes that didn't exist eating candy bars that were non existent..
My heart rate was slowed Way down my mouth was dry and when i walked it felt like i was wearing weighted boots walking on the moon...
If i looked at a wall every speck looked like multicolored bugs crawling all over the wall.
This experience was similar that it was dark and creepy but also different than your trip above..
At least you had off and on lucidity ..but on belladonna i was in the world of the dead..
While under Bella donas grip i had no will at all .it was like being a zombie...i could have walked off a rooftop under its spell!
It makes me wonder what the goal was taking such a trip as you took?
Is it to put ones own self in a state fear and suffering..and cross the border lands into abyss of dieing only to return to the world and sunlight of everyday life?
Can the return to baseline reset our program of life?
There must be something here that is spiritually worth learning!
Smoke some DMT and its over quick.. but the oral trip can as you said.. feels like lifetimes passing in only a couple hours..!
I know this took a lot of courage on your part..
