As we speak, the president of Ecuador is letting oil estimators take measurements on a rather pure area of land, to potentially setup oil extraction operations.

Please sign the petition, no idea of the impact it can have, but every type of effort should be made, regardless of quality or certainty of results. If you guys have FB, please share it!

This is very saddening news. I signed and shared this and I hope everyone else here does as well. Someone needs to stand up to the oil companies and tell them NO! Especially when it involves such a delicate ecosystem such as the amazon, which is one of the few relatively untouched areas, and it must remain this way not only for the future of the natives who live their, but for the wonder and amazement of our future generations. Not to mention all the wonderful knowledge that comes out of these areas and their indigenous peoples.

I urge you along with Neural, please sign this petition. Like he says, who knows exactly what impacts this could have? Lets save the amazon!
Everything published by Gone-and-Back are the mad rantings and ravings of a mind who yearns to be free and thinks he knows what he is talking about. However, these are just delusions made to feel that freedom, because that freedom will never come. Any experiments done are purely figments of the imagination, and are falsified to the highest degree. Nothing should be taken seriously from a crazy mans mind.

It is incredibly heartbreaking, I have signed and shared the petition as this is a cause that I care greatly for. Avaaz does some impeccable and amazing work and I have supported them for many years.

The tricky thing is we blame society but we are society, it took me a long time to learn that the only way that we can truly change things is through changing ourselves. I worked for Greenpeace and attended countless protests while working in the environmental protection field which isn't really environmental protection in essence.

Finally I came to the understanding that people will come to their own realisations in their own time and of their own accord. Definitely one of the hardest and most difficult lessons I have had to learn.

People are going to have to do a lot more than sign petitions or protest.

Corporations only understand profits...the only way to make them stop is to make things cease to be economically viable for them.

Until people take actions against the actual infrastructure that makes these processes possible and financially worthwhile, they're not going to stop.

And here's the article posted on The Guardian, instigated by the over 1 million signatures Avaaz.org collected.

Thanks to everyone who took the time! Of course, now they require even more signatures to increase the pressure. You know what to do!

so it appears not only oil is threatening the area: it is gold and other minerals, too. Wonderful, in-depth attached article looks at the mess from the perspective of the inhabitants. Perhaps some Nexians have met members of these tribes?
