This is a silly idea for a thread, but I'm noticing recently maybe up to 70-80% of the time I'll make an attempt at a reply or maybe a thread opener, then just give up, hit back and forget it ever happen'd.

I use a few forums and this is the only one where I find myself doing this. I guess it's a mixture of not being able to prepare myself for followup opposing posts, envisioning long arguements using large words I need to google and ultimately being unprepared to stand by my convictions. Then maybe it's because the subject matter never feels like it translates as it would eye to eye. Then again, it could be that this forum's a little serious for the immense silliness that is my nature from wherein I pluck my true wisdom Pleased or perhaps I just figure people wouldn't be interested in what I have to say.

But yeah... I still read here a hell of a lot, but don't post much anymore and this is why.

Am I weird or something? Wut?

edit: woohoo! Made a post!

Funny I would say I do that 95% of the time. It is rare for me to actually complete a post. But I am a strange fellow, I often copy a reply to a text file and wait a day before replying to see if the reply still holds true. I guess you could say I don't trust my sense of reality at any one given point so I try to ensure that 2 points are given at the very least.

On boards so thoroughly packed with solid reading material as this one is, I find myself rarely posting. This board especially has so much to offer. I usually find the answers and have no questions left at the end of a thread.

Additionally, I have been been without the spice for so long that I feel I have less to contribute. I have had only one trip in the last year, and before that singular experience, I have to go back to May 2011. While I will always remain a faithful student of the spice, sometimes it is harder to relate (in words via forum post) with the experiences that others share. I typically finding myself nodding in agreement rather than adding my own post to the thread(s).

That said, I love coming to this website to learn, share and expand. It's a wonderful place. Pleased

All the time!

I usually start typing something, and... (I'm already tempted to do it now)... and realise that it's not translating so well into words, sounds poorly thought-out and inarticulate; I often don't post out of fear of looking stupid. We are all anonymous obviously, but I still care very much about whether other users here like what I've got to say.

Even when I first went into chat I was a little terrified.

But to be honest, I mostly don't post because I have very little free time to write out well worded responses; I don't like to post things unless it's well thought out and worded very carefully (...and heavily edited).

With the exception of this post, which I've more or less just banged out willy nilly, pell mell and without shame.

I can't think of a single time that I have aborted a post in progress.

All the time!

I'm very neurotic...kinda like a jewish superman (woody allen with a red cape and blue spandex suit but less audible).
My super power is saying little while looking anxious.
When I write a post I work trough it many many times trying to find the best way
of conveying my thoughts.

Do the post contribute? Can I back this up with evidence? Do I really know What I'm talking about?
How does my ego play into this? Will someone get annoyed? Is it ok to make this person feel annoyed?
Will anyone want to listen to this? Would it look different if I weren't hungry? Did someone else already
write this information etc etc etc repeat ∞

I also use the "copy & paste the post for later review" tek.

The problem I have with "real" conversations is that they can't be edited.
