Thanks Ambiv!

I look forward to hearing what Soulfood has to offer. I guess i've been to too many psytrance partys in India, Thailand, Cambodia, and South America to think otherwise. Laughing

Good trance for me is quite static also. It is called trance afterall.

this is very subjective statement. and its obvious that you have never enjoyed it fully from the way you describe it. also when "trancing" your body can be static but it should be your mind that is moving freely. its called psychedelic trance, which is quite different than the traditional euro trance, rave or trance .

Your anti-techno statement is subjective too.

I'm posting my opinions in defense of DeMeNtEd who you criticised and derailed this thread in the process.

There's lots of music on this thread that I don't care for. I just didn't see how it was appropriate for me to say so, so I didn't.

Its not anti techno at all.You either cant feel what i am saying, or trying to take out of context my words deliberately. I have enjoyed both genres mentioned for alot of years. I have lived in both countries where these genres developed dramatically. Countries like Slovenia where Umek and Canzianni where born and alot of young techno producers that came after them. There were enormous festival organized from their behalf in their time of fame and of course i was afected by that culture. I have also lived in Macedonia where i whitnessed and lived through even more deeply the evolution of goa trance - psy trance. From Macedonia also emerged one of the most popular psytrance producers playing on festivals till this day. I think i can objectively say that most of the psytrance is more psychedelic than techno and the majority will agree with this.

Also, my critic towards Demented was expressed honestly from a producer's stand point. It certainly was not derailing of the thread. I think it was all about this thread. Listening and commenting on the music that is posted.

Many apologies, Ambivalent.

I guess after reading in another thread that DeMenTed had consumed 100mg aMT he was just very excited about his track and so he should be. I too am a producer and can get very excited about unfinished ideas. If he wanted to post an unfinished track it doesn't hurt me, but I do respect your opinion.

I guess I'm just tired and cranky.

But that's just not true Razz

Trippy techno:

edit: this is probably a bad example as it's not quite as techy as I remember, but I'll leave it here anyways because its good Smile

I love andrea parker. Much thanks to d*l*b for that Smile

Then here's some very untrippy god awful psytrance:

I can't stand those stabs. So prominent in the Israel scene, or at least it was a few years back. Not really kept it in check.

(It was a long time ago when I lost ground in what "techno" actually means)

Is "techno" psychedelic or not?

I think it would be very hard to argue that e.g. Freetekno isn´t a "psychedelic music". I think it can be. It would probably be difficult to find someone at a freetekno party who wouldn´t be on acid or something. I bet these people would consider the whole thing pretty "psychedelic".

Very good music. I've now downloaded both albums. They've got a lot of soul! I wasn't expecting that. Thanks for this.

I like thick richly textured music.

Bill Frisell - One of my all time favorite musicians. I recommend the albums Is That You?, Good Dog Happy Man, Quartet, and The Intercontinentals as good starting points. Then get everything else he has done. Many live shows are available to purchase on his web site. Very happy

Joe Zawinul - Weather Report, of course but I like his solo stuff even more. Dialects is a good one to start with.

John Coltrane - Whatever spirit there is in the Universe, he channeled it. A Love Supreme and My Favorite Things are relatively accessible recordings to start with if you are not already into Jazz. Naima may be the most beautiful love ballad ever written.

Shpongle - need I say more?

Nusrat Fateh Ali Kahn - He was a Qawwali singer. Qawwali is a devotional music from Islamic Sufism. This is DEEP stuff. I especially recommend Night Song and Jewel. Both are quite electric and modern sounding, but his traditional music is just as psychedelic. Fron the Wiki page I linked above: "The central themes of qawwali are love, devotion and longing (of man for the Divine)." Even listening to this stuff when entirely sober it gets me high. I defy anyone to listen to this in the full embrace of a psychedelic and not be entranced. Thumbs up

I agree on Coltrane, the man seemed to have a direct channel to the cosmos through his instrument. Truly beautiful and cosmic music. His work on Miles Davis' classic album "A Kind of Blue" is beautiful also which leads me to linking this...

This blew my mind when I happened upon the documentary this performance comes from "A Different Kind of Blue". This to me is some beautiful psychedelic music in the truest sense of the word, the musicians seem to really be searching for something deep in this performance with Miles trumpet as the conductor of sound and mood. It led me nicely down a path towards Miles "electric" era.

I think these guys have some of that same spirit that electric era Miles had (especially live) and are one of my favourite modern acts:

I have found that the whole of the following 3 albums are ,IMHO, absolutely spot-on for a psychedelic session especially with dissociatives:

I am paranoid of my brain. It thinks all the time, even when I'm asleep. My thoughts assail me. Murderous lechers they are. Thought is the assassin of thought. Like a man stabbing himself with one hand while the other hand tries to stop the blade. Like an explosion that destroys the detonator. I am paranoid of my brain. It makes me unsettled and ill at ease. Makes me chase my tail, freezes my eyes and shuts me down. Watches me. Eats my head. It destroys me.
