Dear Nexians,

(And hello to DeMenTed and Ambivalent - I have been following your discussion and quite like how you deliberately magnify your "quarrel" so that it looks like it is like almost a fight :thumb_upSmile

What do you, Nexians, actually understand by "psychedelic music"? Do you think it is possible to somehow delimit/define it, or is it more about feelings or moods that such music arouses in us?

Thanks for your ideas

everyone has their own views on what psychedelic music is. mines is techno. some can argue techno isnt psychede;.lic but ii disagree. look at acid house etc, all sub genres of techno Pleased

Techno is a wide spanning genre and Is agree that the bulk of it is very psychedelic.

I find this true of most EDM genre's. I'm a big fan of psy trance and progressive house but I've heard many psychedelic landscapes in electro, dubstep, DnB, minimal, breaks, house, 2 step.

Same goes for folk, metal, country, blues.

Music itself is a very psychedelic art at its core when it comes down to it. Sound which provokes emotion.

Nice Smile

all music actually act on our psyche somehow, provoking thoughts, changing our emotions and with that our state of mind. but what i call psychedelic music is the music that actually releases me from those thoughts and emotions, it leaves me in kind of meditative state, of course without any substances involved.

Let me be more precise. I think when people mean psychadelic music, that they mean stuff like psy trance. I've been to quite a few full moon partys and suchlike, and the crowds and deco speak psychadelic full stop. Psy trance is simply made to be played outdoors in beautiful locations with all things "psychadelic" involved: Ambiv's track is typical Psy trance which was created for that crowd by the crowd.

Techno isn't really psychadelic or much lesser so, and i heard your track Demented, and didn't find it psychadelic whatsoever. sure it can be argued about, but you'll have 95% travelling hippies laughing right up to your face about that, and they certainly wouldn't be happy with rather dull slow moving and predictable Techno. They'd probably fall asleep because it doesn't have the energy, pulse, and euphoria that good psy trance has.Neutral

A lot of psy trance isn't typically psychedelic either. Look at the Israeli scene or most of the common full on subtype. Just sounds like hardhouse with extra breaks. At least you can zone out to most techno.

The trance I find most psychedelic is actually despised by a lot of psy trance party goers. Stuff like Glosolalia, Gappeq, Psykovsky etc. You also get nicer people at parties where this music's played. Much trance is made for amphetamines, but its obvious which artists are influenced by the classic psychedelic substances.

Any Psytrance is more psychadelic than any techno...Razz

Maybe ur listening to the wrong stuff. The bubbling bassline pulse and squeeking sounds on most psytrance are made for deem smokers and shroomfiends... go tell them otherwise Big grin

You either didn't read my post properly or no very little about techno AND trance.

Modern pay bass isn't bubbly at all. It's rigid as it gets. I'm way better versed in trance than techno. It would take 30 days to listen to my trance collection without sleep and my techno collection is virtually non existent.

Anyway my phone's dying, but I'll be home in a coupla hours and I will post the lamest most boring psy track I have and the most trippy techno I know of just to show you life isn't always as it reads on the tin.

generaly i agree with christian, from the simple reason that techno will be never complex enough in the composition and arrangement to bring me such uplifting and energizing experience such as psychedelic trance can.
but that does not mean that there are no artists that make psychedelic techno, or that psytrance doesnt have its cream and bikini babes/ side.

Often complexity can be too distracting to enter the right headspace and its here where techno really gets you in the zone.

Good trance for me is quite static also. It is called trance afterall.
