My friend made a mistake of leaving the crystals out after filtering the NPS with a coffee filter. The crystals melted into the porous material. He tried washing it with warm hexane, but had no luck recovering the spice.

He figured, he'd cut the "stained" portion of the coffee filter and sandwich it between the 2 balls of coir using "The Machine" and voila! 3 breakthroughs later, it was still smoking like a pro. The coffee filter is not getting burned a all. The first ball of coir just heats it enough to vaporize the spice.

He's so happy he didn't toss that filter away.

Much love!

That is very strange since warm hexane should have no problem dissolving DMT-freebase.

However, next time I would advice to wash out the spice with acetone or IPA, both hare great in dissolving DMT-freebase and both evaporate quickly.

Kind regards,

I thought it was strange too. The hexane was near boiling in that water bath, but the spice was still gooey and stuck to the coffee filter. Acetone has been pulled out of the shelves here in the P.I. IPA is 70% at it's purest.

BTW, the crystals were freeze precipitated from naphtha pulls. Ambient temp was 86°F.

The rest of the pulls are still sitting in the freezer. Next time, I'll evap the residual naphtha in the freezer. Lesson learned! Smile

In order not to use coffee filters, don't shake the pulls when getting them out of the freezer, just pour the hexane slowly in another container, leaving the DMT in the "freezed" container, which you can then scratch off cleanly after the residual hexane has evaporated.
Don't throw the hexane away, there's still some DMT in it that didn't precipitate.
You can reuse it for a later extraction or two then evaporate it, or even better, use it to recrystalize the DMT THEN evaporate it.
But you won't evaporate any hexane in the freezer, get it at 20-30°C (room temp).
Just make sure it doesn't get above 35-40°C, to be safe (DMT melts at 40°C).

I have a quick quesiton kinda similar to this situation.
first want to say i have never done an extraction, i did help a good friend (the one that referred me to the nexus) do it once but it was a while ago.
a buddy of mine gave me some probably about 2 years ago, but it was gooey and stuck to a rolling paper. I just put it in a safe place and figured id probably end up never doing it. So a few questions, and please dont be afraid to tell me if you think this is over my head and would be better handled by somebody more experienced. Is it still good at room temp after all this time? Is there a simple way i could clean it off of the paper?

As the traveler stated, you could soak it in a small amount of acetone or IPA and then let the acetone/IPA evaporate in a small glass or something. the dmt will dissolve in the acetone/IPA and when the acetone/IPA evaporates in the glass it will leave the dmt behind. Let it get totally dry and scrape it out of the glass.
