hello nexians! currently working on a second batch of Rue seeds using the Tao of rue tek. I am about to perform my manske salting step, and am wondering what is the optimal amount of solution to use to get optimal results? for example, if you have 1 G of harmalas use 300 ml of salt water, 5 G harmalas use 1500 ml etc...

in the tek, it says for the second manske step

Quote:
Step 8 - Redissolve

Redissolve your harmalas in a minimal amount of fresh hot water. It will take some heat (not too much) and time for everything to dissolve completely.

is it better to use as little water/vinegar as possible, even if its the first manske?

i currently have approx 5-6 G of harmalas dissolved in 600 ml of vinegar, but wanted to see what experiences people have had with different amounts of liquid. Thanks in advance for your help and insight.

Unfortunately, I don't have any exact ratios for water/harmalas/salt that I've used previously.

From what I understand, the manske requires 10g of salt for each 100 ml of solution, so since you have 600ml, you'd need 60g of salt. I don't believe the amount of harmalas comes into play with the ratios.

The way I've gotten the prettiest crystals is by measuring the initial solution (in your case 600ml) and heating up and saturating a separate 600ml with salt. Then add these together slowly and let them cool off by themselves. You should see some crystal action as soon as it starts cooling off and will continue for a few hours. I usually leave them overnight just to be sure. It seems that the extra room in the solution allows for prettier crystals to grow.

I wish I had some more info and better ratios for ya. Hopefully someone else will chime in soon.

thanks for the response melodic.

I am clear on salt content, previous experiments proved for me that indeed 10g per 100ml is dead on. So you had better results with larger volumes of water? that makes sense, more room for junk to stay in solution while the harmalas precipitate. I am not worried about crystal formation since i will be freebasing the harmalas, just trying to get the cleanest product with the fewest amount of washes.
