I just got back from the doctor here in Peru. I asked for some ambien and valium for the 22 hour flight I have next week to England and then to the U.S and some long bus rides to Lima.

The doctor told me they don't have zolpidem aka ambien here but prescribed me something he said was similar. Midazolam. I am reading about this drug and I must be honest it sounds really heavy duty. Most notably that it is used to induce amnesia before traumatic medical procedures! Im just looking to catch some Z's on a plane not erase a chunk of time from my memeory.
So here is a copy paste from wikipedia. Could somebody with more knowledge than I please read it over and let me know if you think it just sounds worse than it is. there are many scientific terms that I dont understand relating to side effects and characteristics. I would really appreciate it.
Either way I feel if i do take it on the plane and 16 hour busride to the airport I should bio assay it in my hotel room first to make sure I dont do anything that could be a problem on a flight.

It's safe. start with the lowest dose if you're worried, but benzos all have pretty much the same profile. a high dose of any benzo can be amnesia inducing, but the doses prescribed are for anxiety and sleep disorders.

I don't know about this, specifically, Oly, but valium is used as well to induce the same effect during surgeries. I think all benzodiazepines have this amnesiac effect to one degree or another.

I was given 15mg pills which is listed as common doseage for healthy adults so Im happy that I dont have to worry about this. The pills were incredibly expensive!!! i was prescribed 20 but could only afford 6. Hope their fun for how much they cost,

i don't know the relative potency of this particular benzodiazapine. the highest dosage of valium available is typically 10mg, an equivalent dose of xanax being 1mg, and i believe the same is true for klonopin. it really doesn't matter if you're going to be sitting in an airplane seat, though. they will all make you feel nice and dreamy and relaxed until you ultimately fall asleep.

Just don't mix with alcohol. I've lost entire days mixing valium and alcohol (long ago...).

What and miss out on the fun of drinking on benzo's. Art you clearly dont understand the loadie that dwels within me,

yes. it was irresponsible for me to forget to mention this. do not be tempted to drink alcohol. all bets are off if you make this combo.

Just an FYI. Street name for midazolam around here is Dazzle. Based on that name, I'd say use it with caution. I remember taking some halcion (triazolam) back in the 80's... oh wait, I don't remember. At all.
I take about 1.25 mgs of Valium daily. Weaning down slowly from 5mg for a back problem. Valium is my favorite benzo other than tranxene. Before the valium prescription I only took them maybe once a year and I've never had a problem with them. They have great utility though.

Good stuff is Midazolam!

The only issue, Oly, is that it has a half-life of about 4 hours which makes it less ideal than say diazepam/lorazepam/nitrazepam for keeping one asleep.

Ive never tried the tablets but I once came across a 10mg/2ml amp of it; this taken IV produced the most impressive amnesia Ive ever had.Since Roche stopped making Rohypnol this has been used for nefarious purposes as it has a similar effect when taken with alcohol.

Yeah I third this. The most unsettling thing is, it's not just a foggy memory, it's a total, utter and complete blank. For me too, this was long long ago, it's part of my past I'm happy to forget (pun intended ).
