After many failed attempts to grow my M.Hostilis I decided to germinate a Silktree Mimosa seed that I plucked from a large tree.
This one sprouted right up! Just my luck, the only thing I can get to come up is inactive.
It is a beautiful tree nonetheless, here is a pic of it at about a month old.

Mimosa hostilis is one of the easiest plants to grow. It is one of the most tolerant plants I have ever grown. I had near 100% germination rate and now have a number of hostilis trees here in a sunny window and I am in NW Canada..not exactly the trees native climate but still temperate enough. Once it gets a few mature leaf sets you have to try hard to kill this plant in my experience.

What problems did you have with the mimosa? You should explain in more detail what you think was the specific probles(s) and maybe we can figure it out for you.

I would suggest you try hostilis again. It really is a very easy plant to grow and I guarantee you can grow it indoors in your home, or outside if you live in the climate for it.

Just to be sure, when you germinated the seeds did you..

Nick or sand the outer shell to help it sprout?

Soak it in some warm water after nicking it for a few hours?

Plant the swollen seeds in some sort of medium, in a warm spot with a humidity tent and make sure they do not dry out?

Once you did this(or whatever else you did if you got them to germinate) did you..

Make sure to keep them watered but not drown them?

Place them in a sunny spot like a window with lots of sunlight or stick a grow bulb over them or were they in a place without any real sunlight?

I usually have a really easy time growing any plant but I must have gotten bunk seeds or something.
I tried germinating about 20 all together but none even sprouted.
I tried nicking a very small portion of the shell, a large portion of the shell, as well as not nicking them, soaked them in warm water over night, over a few days, in a wet paper towel for a few days, etc. etc.
I planted the swollen seeds in loose soil in my sunny window sill, kept moist, still nothing.
With the silktree I soaked it in warm water without nicking and planted it after it swelled and it popped right up, same soil, same spot in the window.
I bought "viable" seeds from a vendor.
I still have a few left I'm willing to try any other suggestions.

I germinated all of mine by nicking them and then soaking them but not for very long really..I just stuck them quick quickly into a small tray with some potting soil..not too deep into the soil either...I sprayed them all with a mist bottle to wet it and them covered it with wrap to make a humidity chamber. I stuck the thing on top of my radiator by the window in the apartment becasue that was the warmest spot. They germinated within days and all I did was spray them every day to make sure moisture/humidity was okay and they were not drying out.

I also had my seeds in the freezer for many months before even germinating them..I dunno maybe your seeds were so old that they were not viable any longer..cant hurt to try again though.

That is where I started them. I moved now and they are in another window that gets a bit more light and they really like that.

Thanks for the tips,I will give the rest of my seeds a try once it gets a little warmer here and I can put them outside, all my windows are taken up by plants at the moment.
I might even throw a couple in some of those peat moss disks since nothing else seems to have worked.
