I'm starting the creation today of a software project to catalog as much pharmacological data on psychoactive substance.
I'm assuming there are only two current options as far as tool like this is concerned:
1. Expensive paid applications, usually in Java that I've seen due to Universities being the creators.
2. Open source website search lookups like Erowid/Wiki/Etc
If anyone can point me towards some similar software project as the idea I'm proposing, please let me know.
Mainly I'll be using this for my own personal reference and as current hobby. Design will be in the following:
ASP.NET WebService backend for interfacing with the live database.
C# .NET Desktop Application for viewing the data and sending queries to the server.
MSSQL backend database
That's the inital project setup, next major phase:
Web based version of application (In PHP due to my higher proficiency in it)
Mobile Device application (Android/iOS/etc, most likely done in a cross-platform development framework such as PhoneGap)
Features:
Information kept on a drugs. Not just pharmaceutical, but also research/recreation drugs.
INN: Paracetamol
USAN: Acetaminophen
Classification: Sedative
Primary Usage: Antihistamine (Doxylamine Succinate would have sleep aid here)
Systematic (IUPAC) name: N-(4-hydroxyphenyl)ethanamide, N-(4-hydroxyphenyl)acetamide
Trade Names: Aminofen (USA), Anacin Aspirin Free (USA), Apra (USA), Feverall (USA), Genapap (USA), Tylenol (USA), Crocin (India)
Routes of Administration: Oral, rectal, intravenous
Oral Bioavailability: ~100%
Rectal Bioavailability: ??
Intravenous Bioavailability: 100%
Length of Action Oral: Xh XXm
Length of Action Rectal:
Length of Action IV:
Receptor Interaction:
- Name: Histamine H1 receptor Antagonist
Essentialy something similar to drugbank.ca but far more targetted emphasis on ease of use, especially in places where it might matter most (on the phone, having a User Friendly reference for on the spot decisions).
Information on drug interations that are known and suspected.
Dosage levels for MG/KG and MG/LB type information for dosage, and expected effects similar to erowid.
LD50 for every known susbtance, and a list of casulaties from the subject if known with links to more information on the causes.
Chemical structure
Chemical structure analysis to predict possible effects from unknown drugs
List of combinations of the drug that cause potentiation or other potentially dangerous side effects.
I'm looking for any databases that are licensed for free non-commercial use at first for importing, and later on when this is closer to finished can start plugging in licensed databases for commercial distribution.
Commercial distribution would be based on a vastly more expanded data set accessibility that is updated yearly using a subscription revenue model.
Free version will have enough info required for Harm Prevention and be open source (only the database backend won't be)

Any would be volunteers, opions or advice in this endeavor. New hobby side project.
