Strombocactus disciformis is an obsolete synonym for a Turbinicarpus species.

What makes you think that any species of Turbinicarpus is "sacred"???

Coatl, what exactly is the definition of sacred? You mean psychoactive? Where I'm coming from olive trees, wheat, rye and a whole lot of other plants are considered pretty much sacred and have been worshipped in the past.

They are sacred because they do something very good to you; they feed you, which is the number one thing to sustain the (pretty much considered sacred) gift of life. All the plants in your list come second to these.

A whole bunch of plants have been considered sacred by one culture or another, irrespective of their psychoactive or nutritional use. Considering that, it would be more helpful to make a list of plants that are "NOT" considered sacred,

Agreed the plants that feed us as well as other animals are sacred as they give rise to all life. Without them these plants you call sacred may exist but likely wouldn't have alkaloids as the alkaloids are believed in many cases to be protection from predators in one form or another such as bitter taste, poisonous,... (Some metabolic compounds may exist). Thus these plants evolved alkaloid contents as protection from animals which require plant food for energy. Not only have plants driven the evolution of animal life, animal life has driven the evolution of plant life. Animals can not live without plants but many plants also require animals to live (for example protection, seed dispersion, pollenation..) It is interesting how plants through feeding us control the state of the world and animals through feeding influence the state of the plants. This is an essential relationship that has been around since the beginning of multi-cellular life (even before that if we consider photosynthetic single celled organisms).

Also what about?
Papaver somniferum This is a sacred medicine which has ben used for thousands of years to treat pain, depression, and bring joy and happiness. Many of its alkaloids are still used today by millions around the world for the same purposes.

I could have a list of non-psychoactive sacred botanicals as well...

What I was going for was a list of botanicals that I MUST have in my garden. Basically all the safe, effective and worth while psychoactive ethnobotanicals.





Basically I want botanicals that are safe, effective psychoactive, which are considered holy in one part of the world or another...

I would add Anadenanthera colubrina and Anadenanthera peregrina.

Also add
Phalaris species
Acacia madenii and other acacias
Desmanthus illinoensis
Manrdagora officinarium (Mandrake)
Datura
Ilex paraguariensis (Yerba mate)
cola species (kola nut)

what about peganum harmala

and some big tree like elizabetha princeps (I think thats the name), from which very sacred ashes are mixed by some tribes (yanomami for example) with virola resin or anadenanthera seeds for making snuff

...and since you have Camelia sinensis, why not also add Coffea arabica/rustica.

Catha edulis also deserves a place. Same goes for Myristica species (nutmeg) and Acorus calamus (Sweetflag).

And if Datura spp and Mandrake are added, then one should also consider Atropa belladonna, Brugmansia, Digitalis purpurea (foxglove), and Aconitum napellus (monkshood)

Virola theiodora is also psychoactive ethnobotanical.

Possibly the ergot fungus Claviceps purpurea?

And let us not forget yeast, or brewer's yeast, Saccharomyces cerevisiae; alcohol can be considered an entheogen. An easily abused entheogen with adverse consequences but an entheogen when used accordingly. Just like weed.
