It would seem this is the case, I took a piece of cling film and put it over the pot to capture the steam from a pot of rue seeds on a rolling boil in a pan of water. I took this to my UV bulb and lo and behold, the droplets fluoresce. Could this mean there are other things in there which evap and fluoresce? Or do harmalas indeed evaporate with the steam? How much comes out is a mystery to me. It wasn't a faint glow, it was rather strong. I was certainly not over-boiling too. I should have taken a picture, I will next time. Anyone else is welcome to confirm this however.

No, harmalas do not boil at these temperatures. You had a rolling boil and droplets splashed on the film...you'll have to prove that not even microdroplets from the pan splashed onto the cling film to support your claim.

Nope, i just held it above the water in the steam. The water was not moving anwhere near enough to cause splashes.

Microsplashes maybe, (would it not just be steam at that distance?). Bummer I have no rue left, I'm eager to try and show this. Anyone is welcome to, I used a cfl UV bulb, (not the tube type). I remember it did the same on photo paper too (not that that affects anything).
