Last Sunday on National Geographic channel they had a show called "Drugs Inc" and it was all about hallucinogens. So they covered Aya, Shrooms, LSD and something called ibogain (sic)?

Anyways, the first thing they covered was Aya and they went to this place where they make fresh Aya and they give it to people. Anyways, they said they go get the vine and cook the vine to make Aya. They go on to say that the vine contains DMT. Are thye wrong about that? I'm assuming the "vine" was B. Caapi. I thought Caapi was just a MAOI. Does Caapi contain DMT?

Live plants. Sustainable, ethically sourced, native American owned.

No banisteropsis caapi doesn't contain DMT. That's what the admixtures are for.

summary of their review of LSD: if your a pussy, it'll kill you.

It wasn't as bad as that. I thought it was pretty objective about a lot of things, even if it wasn't entirely accurate. The part about LSD was pretty insane though. The DEA agent getting dosed with 1000 hits, and the doctors just stick him in a room and let him trip out. Rolling eyes

I definitely agree they blew LSD way out of proportion. He claimed it will give you brain damage and could kill you on high doses. Neither of these have ever been found to be true. An elephant died on a MASSIVE amount of LSD once but its not conclusive whether it died from LSD toxicity or just had a heart attack from the intensity of the experience.

Though, who knows what a "1000 hits" will do to you. I guess this guy does but what is a "1000 hits" anyway? How much LSD is that, who decided he had the equivalent of a "1000 hits" and how did he come up with that figure?

Yeah, and it wouldn't be as bad if the agent just toughed it out, but no..

and for the '1000' hits thing, i doubt they took a serum sample, he probably just used his super smart DEA brain to calculate how much exactly.

LSD is potent indeed, he definitely absorbed more then a few doses, but there is most definitely a tipping point as to how much LSD can interact with your receptors, meaning there wouldn't be much difference from taking 100 hits or 500 hits or 1000 hits, your going to be tripping balls for as long as it is in your system.

I noticed the same thing when they said the vine containes DMT, As they said the vine was crushed and mixed with leaves and stuff, yea the leaves contain the DMT (chacruna leaves) not the vine, the mao is in the vine. They probably dont want us to know, lol

They claimed that Ayahuasca was a toxic and potentially lethal substance if i recall correctly.

The whole thing wasn't totally horrible though...
It's just a shame that nowadays, balanced journalism means just throwing extreme polar positions together , instead of evaluating them independently.

..yes indeed..it was another example of the horrible unethical 1950s/60s psychedelic medical 'research' which included giving DMT and bufotenine to helpless involuntary mental patients..and we are supposed to take these experiments seriously as a source of scientific knowledge on psychedelics?

ps.and these experimenters on schizophrenics didn't have the guts or ethics to test these compounds on themselves..

Amazing how Nat Geo the magazine can be soooo good and Nat Geo the TV channel soooo bad. You'd think they'd want to protect their name or something.

Some bits of that episode really pissed me of!

Im quite sure the DEA agent's story it's made up... It just doesnt sound right how he describes the effects.

Then, when they said that the Aya vine contains DMT, I completely lost hope Sad

I didn't know mushrooms are a tratment for cluster headaches. I've heard about 2-BROMO-LSD, a non-acitve derivitave of lysergic acid as a legaly prescribed treatment. I hear tell they can convert BROMO into good ol LSD these days... Go Science!
