Hello!

I am planning on making a THP to-nite,
and am wondering some things:

Firstly,
I read in the preparation guide that as little as ten grams of material is sufficient for a single dose when working with caapi. Based on those who have used it's experience, is this the case? It said in the initial paragraph that using this method is more effective than doing the traditional 3x3 hour cook method, but is it really as much as 10 times as efficient (based on caapi that I would need to use ~100 grams per dose via 3x3)? I've been using 4X30 minute cooks recently, which I read in a thread catches as much as 87% of the actives, with another 4X30 catching most of the remainder. Is THP more efficient than this method?

Also, regarding acidification - in lou of vinegar, would citric acid (via lemon or lime juice) do the job as well? If so, how much lemon or lime juice should I be using? I have noticed when cooking that adding citric acid tends to make the brew more potent, but also more nauseating/bitter - more so than I have noticed than with using 15 or so ml of vinegar throughout the cook. But then again, I suppose I have been a bit more liberal with lemon juice than with vinegar. However, with THP using low-temperature percolation, thus generally pulling less tannins and insolubles, would adding citric acid be less detrimental to the taste and handle-ability of caapi or jurema?

Regarding water/herb ratio, the prep notes recommend starting with 1 g:150 ml, but then states that using even more is that much more effective. In the experience of people who have used THP, how much more water does this mean? 200ml? 300? I mean, I will probably be percolating around 800 grams of material, which is already quite a bit of water.

That's about all I can think of for now, thanks in advance for any replies!

Ime, 10g of material will not be enough unless you are incredibly sensitive to aya to begin with. THP with acidified water is an incredibly efficient extracting method, moreso than simply soaking/simmering/boiling material because every drop of water that goes through THP is "clean" and therefore has the ability to hold more actives at any time than the water in a soak/boil. That's also why it uses such a high volume of water combined with the osmotic pressure of always exposing your plant material to fresh water, to exhaust the plant of any actives that might be hiding out.
