OMG..I just had a deja-vu moment..i remember wondering why i was having a dream about parts for some glassware and BAM! here i am 3 months later...spooky!

Anyway ,on topic, I have been eyeing a couple different separatory funnels on Ebay. they both are Pyrex brand and BOTH are missing the valve body of stopcock(?) and the stopper. I am guessing that the vavle body is a stem that turns wiht a hole in it. I have read other descriptions and the plastic stopcocks mention how they dont need "oiling". My concern is how would I find that valve stem and the proper name for it in lab speak. the stopper I am sure could get at Nurnberg Scientific. stuff there is expensive.. i got acids and methanol for cleaning my telescope lens and for gold extraction and they aint cheap. that little valve piece could be $20!! So I am hoping someone with true chemistry experience could tell me how to find the part to see if its worth getting. There was a plastic one available for cheap but its from israel and i wont buy anything bathed in Palestinan blood.

thanks for your help,
peace

I am going to do someone else a favor that is asking the same question..BEFORE you buy on abay MAKE SURE you have the stopper and stopcock (valve at bottom) If it is pyrex its most likely a ground glass stopper and ground stopcock. looking at over $40 for the stopper and over $30 for the stopcock, so plan on minimally spending $70 on top of that. so for a USED (possible new) globe funnel was looking at over $100 dollars..Oh that was just shippibng, notadding the timeand gas finding (if find) the parts. lab equip aint cheap. that stands alone start at $20 without the clamps.

They have all kinds of glass thats useful for extracting, and their prices are pretty damn good as well. Def check it out.

In a society in which nearly everybody is dominated by somebody else's mind or by a disembodied mind, it becomes increasingly difficult to learn the truth about the activities of governments and corporations, about the quality or value of products, or about the health of one's own place and economy.
In such a society, also, our private economies will depend less upon the private ownership of real, usable property, and more upon property that is institutional and abstract, beyond individual control, such as money, insurance policies, certificates of deposit, stocks, etc. And as our private economies become more abstract, the mutual, free helps and pleasures of family and community life will be supplanted by a kind of displaced citizenship and by commerce with impersonal and self-interested suppliers...
The great enemy of freedom is the alignment of political power with wealth. This alignment destroys the commonwealth - that is, the natural wealth of localities and the local economies of household, neighborhood, and community - and so destroys democracy, of which the commonwealth is the foundation and practical means.โ€ - Wendell Berry

I should mention..if you dont get your Ship conformation right away..CALL THEM. I did after 3 days of no ship. with stuff so cheap i order a couple not so important things. they were lacking the one size of lab spatula(they had other one/traded) and the ceramic dish and a dropper bottle. THEN you got to watch your mail..why? because i said cancel the other 2 items because iwouldnt be home later. she agreed, but 2 weeks later i get a USP pick up notice in email..they were going to send them! It costs me $100 in gas between my 2 residences so not worth second trip. luckily i contacted them in time. they were nto goign to charge me extra shipping though. If your not in my same situation, at least you know that you can have them send whats availble and then send the BO object later at no extra charge, but you need to call or you will end up wating until they are all in stock

Hey oldtripper,
I don't know where you live, but you might check if their is a local science store. I have one right by me (love that store). They sell all kinds of neat stuff! New/used glassware... Sep. funnels, magnetic stir/hotplates, fractional distillers, condensers ect. I'm pretty sure you're in the US too. But I absolutely hate/dread purchasing online so...
