I say go for it. I've always wondered if there was a correlation between melatonin and DMT. If you experience anything interesting, be sure to report back with the results.

If you use this before aya I think there will be a big change you fall asleep while having your journey.

With smoked DMT I don't know, it could be interesting.

SWIM has found that this increases the duration and the vividness of the exprience although slightly but noticable. Pretreated 5-10mg about 30 min before freebased. I doubt you would fall asleep, melatonin at normal doses 3-10mg can assist sleep but not induce it, higher doses you would almost definetly pass out.

sounds interesting

I have my doubts because melatonin doesn't pass the BBB when you take it, so it won't necessarily act centrally (it's primarily produced in the brain anyway); but doesn't hurt to try. melatonin is certainly safe, some claim it's beneficial. Smile

Melatonin absolutly crosses the blood brain barrier. It also definelty acts centrally it has been shown to be moderatly effective sleep aid via its central activity. Now how much of an oral does gets into the CNS is a different story, however melatonin does cross the BBB and exerts its effects on sleep/wake cycle via the CNS.

Off topic, but bufoman, could you also give some references your statements as such? You're loaded with nice info but it would be nice to show others the primary research. I'm just too busy sometimes and cannot look through pubmed for juicy articles. (scientists also need vacation!)

However this does not mean that melatonin exerts its effects on DMT centrally (although it certainly may) I have no idea just tht it had an effect on SWIM. Melatonin is metabolized by CYP450 1A2 this effect may alter DMT's metabolism. when the two are combined I have no idea if this is true although I do know that MAO activity can only account for a portion of DMT metabolism. The point is that there are many possibilities that could lead to an enahnced reduced effect that do not involve CNS activity.

my mistake, it's serotonin that doesn't easily cross.
melatonin readily passes the BBB

Sure thing. Just glad someone appreciates Literature articles . Mnay seemed not to be concerned with where their facts originate from. Having a background in science has taught me to be sceptical of what people say.

Thats quite interesting , would it also work with , for example Psilohuasca ?
Are there any resources for that effect ?

it seems these compounds act on the same receptors

I love using melatonin as a normal sleep aid because it feels completely natural.
That and the dreams that are produced by it.

Even the effects when mixed with something like psilocybin, or other tryptamines would be interesting to experiment with.Very happy
So glad to see you have overcome them.

perhaps even more interesting would be preloading with tryptophan.
melatonin represents one possible end product of tryptophan metabolism, tryptophan obviously being the starting compound. in theory, some tryptophan metabolizes into tryptamine compounds, which actually inhibit production of serotonin (which would metabolize into n-acetyl-serotonin, then melatonin); so it would make more sense to load up on the precursor in the whole pathway...tryptophan.
