Following more or less β€œQ21Q21's Vinegar/Lime A/B Extraction Tek”
I am wondering a few things.

First, why is it in many of these teks, especially when using vinegar (it seems) does a clear solvent saturated with DMT dry brown/colored? Why would a clear solution not dry clear/white?

Second question, at least for tonight, lime was used, not lye. Does this ever soak into the solvent, in this case xylene (also naptha is being used side by side and curious about that as well)? Wondering because about 80ml of xylene was sealed up into a jar and placed in the freezer for fun, and there are white crystal looking things but am wondering if it may be the lime or maybe even water that got in there? The crystals are always on the bottom…..is water heavier than xylene or naptha?

can post pics if needed.

whoops, just read this on the shroomery, seems right . is it true?

"it's commonly thought that dmt is coupled with tannic acid, which is likely what gives it that characteristic color "

..as far as i've seen or heard, the uncondensed tannins will remain in the water soluble portion of a separation; condensed tannins are produced by prolonged heating, but should be filterable in solution (they congeal)
..i'm not a chemist, but i don't see how dmt freebase can be coupled with tannic acid, this would not be a 'free' base, but some kind of salt..proper basification should not permit this to happen..there are lots of things the colors could be (oxides, other alkaloids etc)

..napatha will sit atop water, xylene (i'm assuming) like other halogenated solvents will be the bottom layer..

acidification or basificiation beyond certain pH can create reaction byproducts like ßcarbolines, oxide etc..

i can't find any scientific evidence of DMT in MHRB ocurring as the Tannate
..in most plants DMT is present as the salt various Krebs Cycle acids (according to Dennis McKenna in the early 90s)
