That's only true if you consider life to be but a merciless onslaught. Smile

JBArk
JBArk is a Mandelthought; a non-fiction character in a drama of his own design he calls "LIFE" who partakes in consciousness expanding activities and substances; he should in no way be confused with SWIM, who is an eminently data-mineable and prolific character who has somehow convinced himself the target he wears on his forehead is actually a shield.

Attack is the best form of defense-grab your life with both hands and seize every moment as if it could be your last.
I am paranoid of my brain. It thinks all the time, even when I'm asleep. My thoughts assail me. Murderous lechers they are. Thought is the assassin of thought. Like a man stabbing himself with one hand while the other hand tries to stop the blade. Like an explosion that destroys the detonator. I am paranoid of my brain. It makes me unsettled and ill at ease. Makes me chase my tail, freezes my eyes and shuts me down. Watches me. Eats my head. It destroys me.

Rush beyond death before death can get to you.

Then death will have to wait a little while.

I've always had a huge problem with that line of thought. Living as each day could be your last, or moment or whatever, is... very problematic.

It's taking things to the other extreme. Sure, don't live your life in fear without trying anything new. That is a bad idea because no matter how careful you are, life will eventually end.

However, living every moment as if it could be your last, if followed truely, will mean you never think about the future, and could end up making some HUGE mistakes.

If you knew tomorrow you would die with 100% certainty, it would give you the ability to do some insanely dangerous stuff without worry. Spend all your money without concern, and just in general be incredibly irresponsible.

Bleh... I like to think I have a healthy amount of moderation when it comes to planning for future, and living in the moment. So I guess the advice to "live as if it's your last X" just bothers me.

Oh and quite true. As the famous comedian whose name I can't recall right now said, this is just a ride. Buckle up, and brace yourself.

When you go deep into it, one should realize that we really aren't in control. And that's the struggle most people have. Losing control over one's life is terrifying but when you are able to practice a certain mindset then it can be liberating.

Note I used the word 'seize' rather than 'live'!Wink Life is a bit of a paradox insofar as most of us value ours highly, when really its a commodity thats not in short supply.I allude to an awareness that each of our lives are finite, and the end-point for some of us is closer than we can imagine. It happens every day that those who are ostensibly fit and well just drop down dead, or are affected by actions which are out of our control, and actualise the concept that we cannot be certain that tomorrow will ever become yesterday.

We aren't totally defenceless. Maybe if a meteor hits earth or the sea levels rise and we all drown or something, but otherwise we DO stand a chance of defending ourselves, sure little things may bite us in the ass, such as s terminal illness or a car crash, but surely the fragility is what makes it so special / such a miracle?

Or to paraphrase it:

Brace yourself, life is coming.

But then, doing that doesn't matter, does it.
