So good... so good. <3 I love you all. βRight here and now, one quanta away, there is raging a universe of active intelligence that is transhuman, hyperdimensional, and extremely alien... What is driving religious feeling today is a wish for contact with this other universe.β β Terence McKenna

Yes, fantastic. This is at least the second time this has shown up here... The truth and the continuing mystery. Indeed. L "The first principle is that you must not fool yourself, and you are the easiest person to fool." Richard P. Feynman

Incredible. I'm so glad I got to see that. Thank you. Dows anybody know what that cool song is at the end? "What's wrong with that generation? ... Is this what comes of putting on Pink Floyd laser lightshows down at the Planetarium?" --Spider Robinson

great video and watch, that movie made me feel good. Our world is in crisis because of the absence of consciousness." β Terence McKenna

That was fun. Not as mind blowing as he presents it, though. The kind of mindgasms you had when you were a kid. But enjoyable nonetheless. He has gaps in his logic, or leaps actually, that are not founded in anything but his prejudice though. He also sounds awfully spiritual for someone claiming pure atheism. His whole staring at the majesty of the infinite universe and saying dude I am you is actually the foundation of all mysticism. Seems like he has a beef with organized religion. (which any sane person should have as well) But science is not a savior. It has given us its own share of horrors. WMD's and Josepf Mengele anyone? "Curiouser and curiouser..." ~ Alice
"Do not believe in anything simply because you have heard it. Do not believe in anything simply because it is spoken and rumored by many. Do not believe in anything simply because it is found written in your religious books. Do not believe in anything merely on the authority of your teachers and elders. Do not believe in traditions because they have been handed down for many generations. But after observation and analysis, when you find that anything agrees with reason and is conducive to the good and benefit of one and all, then accept it and live up to it." ~ Buddha

Hyperspace Fool: I was thinking the same thing, that he sounded specifically resentful of organized religion. And, I don't know, he mentioned mosques along with churches; my impression of Islam is that on the whole it hasn't been as repressive of science as historically the Christian church has. The Arabs invented the zero, and a lot of science got started in the Middle East quite a long time ago. BUT what I did like is the part where he talked about not bowing down before God. (in an implied groveling sense.) I think there's an important distinction between humility, which is absolutely essential, and humiliation; i.e., thinking of yourself as a "worthless sinner." I hope I haven't offended anyone by saying this; if so, my apologies. "What's wrong with that generation? ... Science vs Religion is the same as knowledge vs ignorance. One is clearly better than the other.
