Quote:
A TEENAGER plunged to his death from a fourth-floor window after taking a powerful hallucinogenic drug.

Rikki Green, 17, smoked salvia, a legal high, through a bong before jumping out of the window moments later.

An inquest on Wednesday heard the teen, from San Juan Court, suffered severe brain damage and died a week later on June 6, following the tragedy on May 30.

The kid was wandering around the apartment, his friends left him alone so as not to panic him, and whaddya know there's an open window. Sad

Salvia divinorum is a very powerful dissociative in my experience. This is what makes it such a bizarre, whack-a-doodle psychedelic experience. The sleep walking phenomenon is real - I've done it. And after that incident, I never did salvia again. Makes me sad, but safety first. Acting out a 3-D trip while not in your body can contribute to things like the above.

I beseech everyone to please approach salvia with extreme respect. Approach it more like a dissociative than a psychedelic. Use a strong, well-grounded, experienced sitter if going deep. Smoalk less and dose low. Reverse tolerance is as real as something gets with this plant teacher.

Damn... not again! You know it's a funny thing about salvia. How it can make people just get up and walk around not aware of what there doing. I don't understand how that can happen to someone with a sitter there. It's not the first time either. It's a shame!

I've had this happen to me on more than a few occasions. (walking around on salvia) I never did anything drastic but there have been times I "came to" standing up on the opposite side of the room when I had previously started out sitting on my bed. I never had any recollection of getting up and walking around. It just happens. That's why I don't smoke salvia very often. There's only two friends of mine who don't mind sitting for me when I do actually partake. Unfortunately I don't get a chance to hang out with them often and the thought of smoking it by myself freaks me out. I know first hand how things could possibly go terribly wrong.

That's what I like about the spice. When it kicks in I become totally immobilized during the entire session. I pretty much only smoke spice when I'm alone and wish I could do the same with salvia.

My ex girlfriend is one of my sitters for me. Even though she chooses to sit for me she does gets nervous sometimes. She says that I'm so much bigger than her and is afraid I could knock her down and maybe she couldn't take care of me If I do happen to get up and walk around.

That is why I've been working on an invention. Something that could possibly save lives for those who chose to smoke salvia alone or even with a sitter. I'm sure I'm not the first person to think of it but I have been trying to design this in a way that is comfortable and reliable...

I call it: The Salvia Safety Belt!

Of course there is a lot of testing to be done with it. My biggest fear is of people just freaking out when they cant get up from there seat and ruining the experience somewhat. Also it would have to be designed in a way that they can't remove it while there under the influence but are able to when they come back. Something make of padded straps, velcro or belt like straps. If anyone else can think of a way to contribute to this design that would be really cool.

I'd love to spend some more time exploring salvia space while I'm alone. I just don't want to turn into another statistic.

That's just sad. Sometimes ban on certain drugs will keep it away from these kind of young people, though not always. Therefore I wouldn't be surprised if this kind of situation would lead to ban of salvia in the US.

Funny, the idea of somehow tying oneself to one's bed or chair has come up a couple times in chat in relation to salvia divinorum. Personally, given it's strong dissociative/psychedelic nature and my tendency to breakthrough easily, I suspect "coming to" in some sort of restraint might not work out that well for me.

I'm not sure why, but sometimes salvia made me irritable. The one time I made a video, I was amazed to see (among other things) myself using extensive expletive language in addressing my music player and then very clumsily changing the music entirely.

Somehow I just imagine coming back to reality tripping face and finding myself tied up might makes things a bit . . . interesting. I don't know, maybe if the last thing I remembered before taking the hits was "strapping myself in," it might work.

I'm like you Dreamwalker - I really appreciate the strong paralyzing effect of DMT. Basically, for now, I'm sticking with DMT for breakthroughs and low doses of other things (and/or HIGH doses of LSD) for dissociation. I miss salvia, but I feel like my sleepwalking makes me "a danger to self and others," so for now I'll just watch from the sidelines.

Yeah Pandora that's what I was saying was my biggest fear. I can completely see how being strapped down to a chair during an experience like that could totally ruin it.

I've never tried it before but would hope that whoever was strapped down would fumble with the straps for a while and then just give up.

I don't know if it's the best idea but I think its worth trying out.

It's just I would love to go deeper into salvia space alone like I do with DMT.
I just want to make sure I come back in one piece!

Once upon a time in an interview Tim Leary was asked about kid's eating LSD and jumping out windows thinking they could fly. His reply was "Oh that's easy, just don't take acid above the first floor" Laughing

Wow. This reminds me of a salvia trip where I was worried about sleepwalking. I'd had minor incidences but no major one yet. So, I figured I'd be so altered/intoxicated by the salvia state that if I set up an elaborate lock system on the door to the room I was in that I wouldn't be able to sleepwalk out of the room.

Fail.

I come out of salvia trance in the kitchen.

I used to take people to a flat area out in the forest sometimes to smoke salvia with them. That way they dont really have anywhere to go that can cause them harm(unless they run into a tree maybe) and they usually just sit back down..I have really only seen a few people actaully bolt though..not many. I have stood up from shock etc or rolled across my floor and other odd things but nothing like running around..actaully I once did smoke salvia while at a psy festival off in the mountains alongside this river and I smoked and sort of rolled over and my legs went into the river but I was half aware of it the whole time-it was still dangerous though as the river had lots of rapids..after that I had thought of going to this lookout cliff over the ocean where I used to eat low doses of mushrooms, and tie myself up really well to a tree with a harness I had from work and smoke salvia there..

A harness is actaully a good idea when it comes to salvia at a certain dose.
Long live the unwoke.

Yikes! Maybe us solo sleepwalking salvia smoalkers should just have our friends lock us in a padded room with a straight jacket on! Laughing

Yes, see that's what I'm looking for good ideas like that. A harness like device would be comfortable. something that has some give so a person is actually able to move around. Just not totally stand up and walk around.

I've come to in a different room myself before - once even twice in the same 10 minutes. Salvia is a very strange animal in this (and all other) respect(s). I remember Antrocles calling me once in a panic after he'd taken a tincture alone at a lake house, and then wandered outside and into the lake.

I'm surprised these incidents don't happen more often, quite honestly - considering the easy, legal access combined with the YouTube factor.

Salvia immobilizes me. I've only moved around a couple times when I first started to smoke it, and only once did I end up in another room. I think I may have learned to overcome the impulse to get up and move about somehow. I always used to tell myself that I wouldn't move before I hit it, and it worked. I don't even say that to myself anymore, because I never move. I get extremely off balance from just one hit of plain leaf, so I imagine if I did move, it would be much like a drunk person, falling and laughing. I rarely do hits of extract, however. But even when I do, I still don't move a muscle.

DMT on the other hand...I smoked one of the larger doses (for me) recently and I "came to" still on my bed but completely wrapped up in the blankets and sheets, as if I had been doing a gator roll. Was kind of frightening, because I couldn't remember doing it, or which part of the trip would make me want to spin around like that.

And as for the OP, it's not always as simple as Leary puts it, but that would helps things enormously. Just do Salvia when you're in a safe place, ground level, no high places that can be climbed, etc.

That's terrible, really makes me wonder why salvia got all the luck of being one of the only legal psychedelics. I personally HATE the stuff. It reminds me of the old Calvin & Hobbes comics wherein the laws of perspective no longer apply and he goes around his house terrified that nothing will ever be the same only when i do it it feels like there are ridgid metal bars running through my body and there are a bunch of mocking annoying entities everywhere. The farthest I ever got with it was a time I appeared in a hyperspace blockbuster with scary clown faces on the walls singing through shpongle about rentals...really stupid. I don't know I've never seen anyone behave in a decent manner at all on salvia in fact i had a friend punch my roommate and not even remember it whist under its influence. I think its place in smoke shops might want to be reconsidered.

salvia is best to use in sensory deprivation IMO..no light, no music unless light tonal sounds without fast pulsing or changing rythms and laying down against pillows or blankets. Everything described in the above post sounds like effects that manifest when salvia is not taken this way. I have had all of those same effects and they were always when I had sensory distractions. You want to forget the body completely with this medicine..it is a powerful dissociative, but at the same time the mind attempts to reassociate with other objects, sounds, lights etc if they are present..this is when things get confusing..salvia is always going to be weird, but alot of the freakout confused trips can be avoided if the set and setting are ideal for this plant.
Long live the unwoke.

excuse the morbid opinion but natural selection still does its best to sort out the unviables

hence secrecy about these substances except to handpicked people

I tried salvia before but never like it. These news are just one more reason to stay away from it.

That and the fact that I live on the 7th floor with too many windows Shocked

Youtube video of a guy smoking salvia and jumping out of a second story window.

I had one experience where I was sitting in the back doorway of my house smoking salvia, found myself lying on the ground outside a few minutes later with no idea how I'd gotten there. The majority of people probably should not be breaking through on salvia without a sitter, the stuff is far more dissociative than psychedelic.
I am seriously making all of this stuff up. No, really.
